Position Overview

The Student Technology Assistant is a temporary summer internship role designed for students interested in gaining hands-on experience in educational technology support. Based at EF Academy in Thornwood, NY, the intern will work closely with the Technology Department to assist with technical tasks, equipment setup, user support, and system maintenance. This position provides a unique opportunity to develop technical skills in a professional educational setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help Desk Support: Assist with first-level technical support for staff and faculty by responding to basic hardware and software inquiries.
  • Hardware Setup: Support the preparation, imaging, and deployment of laptops, desktops, and mobile devices for the upcoming academic year.
  • Inventory Management: Help update and maintain accurate technology asset records, including labeling and organizing equipment.
  • AV and Classroom Setup: Assist in checking and preparing classroom audiovisual equipment, projectors, and presentation systems.
  • Software Installation: Provide support with basic software installations and updates across devices.
  • Documentation: Contribute to internal guides and user-friendly instructions for common technology issues.
  • Digital and Physical Space Cleanup: Support digital file organization, shared drive cleanup, and account management tasks. Maintain storage areas throughout the school.
  • Cabling and Networking: Assist with light cabling, labeling, and identifying networked devices.
  • Team Collaboration: Work under the guidance of the Educational Technology team and assist with special projects or audits as needed.
  • Professional Development: Participate in brief training sessions to better understand school technology systems and best practices in IT support.
  • Other Duties as Needed

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in high school or college with an interest in technology, computer science, or education.
  • Basic familiarity with computers, printers, and common software applications (Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Willingness to learn and apply new technical concepts.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to following through on tasks.
  • Punctuality, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Prior experience in a school tech environment is a plus but not required.

Other Requirements

  • Able to work 30–40 hours per week during the summer period.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation and move equipment safely.
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written.

Note: This is a temporary, seasonal internship designed to provide learning opportunities and support for EF Academy’s summer technology projects. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
