About the Role
The Strategy Lead is the General Manager of a client pod at Ecom Experts — acting as a Head of E-Commerce for every Shopify brand they serve. This role reports to the VP of Strategy and sits at the centre of a self-sufficient three-person pod: Strategy Lead, CRO Lead, and Research Analyst.
This is not a narrow execution role. The Strategy Lead owns the 90-day growth plan, directs the CRO Lead and execution team, and is accountable for compounding, reportable outcomes across the full client portfolio. You bring broad ownership — thinking across marketing, financials, technology, and the customer ecosystem — not just conversion rate metrics.
We are looking for someone with genuine financial acumen, the ability to communicate clearly with clients in real time, and the instincts to anticipate problems before they compound. The Pod Model
Every client is served by a complete, accountable growth unit with no gaps:
- Strategy Lead (you): Sets the 90-day plan, owns benchmarks, directs the team, communicates value.
- CRO Lead: Drives 3–4 validated tests per month with an abundant testing pipeline.
- Research Analyst: Grounds every strategy in customer insights — powering tests, creative, email, and paid.
The pod operates on a rolling 90-day growth plan with clear benchmarks that are trackable and reportable at any moment.
What You'll Do
Strategy & Growth Planning
- Own and communicate the 90-day growth plan for every client in your pod, with live benchmarks and progress reporting.
- Set baselines and targets for ARPU, contribution margin, and revenue at program start — and track them continuously.
- Quantify total pod value: validated test wins, confirmed bug fix revenue, and ideas correctly tested but not shipped.
- Direct the CRO Lead and execution team without personally doing the execution.
Financial Acumen
- Analyse NCAC, gross margin, and contribution margin to surface profitability levers for the client.
- Lead price-testing and free-shipping threshold conversations when margins need improving.
- Recommend AOV strategies — bundling, low-cost add-ons — to gain margin points without adding friction.
Technical & Ecosystem Awareness
- Understand the tech stack, app stack, and theme constraints — flag blockers before they compound.
- Anticipate downstream impact: a 30% surge in cold traffic will cause a CVR dip — proactively communicate this.
- Spot data signal degradations (Meta pixel, Klaviyo, GA4) and route them to the right resource immediately.
Client Communication
- Report live progress at any moment: 'We're up 8% on PDP-to-cart rate, roughly $X incremental lift.'
- Translate complex technical and data findings into clear client-facing narratives.
- Proactively surface risks, wins, and next moves — never waiting to be asked.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: 5+ years in ecommerce strategy, CRO, or digital marketing — ideally in a client-facing or GM-type role.
- Financial literacy: Comfortable reading contribution margin, NCAC, and ARPU — and turning them into action.
- Platform expertise: Deep familiarity with the Shopify ecosystem, including A/B testing and experimentation tools.
- Data fluency: Strong GA4 experience; ability to spot signal degradation and interpret funnel data critically.
- Strategic breadth: You think beyond CVR — you connect marketing, finance, tech, and creative into a coherent growth plan.
- Communication: You can brief a client live with confidence and precision, without needing to prepare slides first.
- Background: Agency or high-growth startup experience strongly preferred. You've worked fast and been accountable for outcomes.
What Success Looks Like
- At any moment, you can report incremental revenue from validated tests and confirmed bug fixes — with rough estimates, not rough guesses.
- Your pod's 90-day plan is live, tracked, and updated — not a deck that collects dust.
- Clients feel like they have a dedicated Head of E-Commerce who sees around corners, not a vendor who reports backwards.
- You proactively identify financial and technical risks — and route them to the right person — before they become client escalations.
- You establish yourself as the strategic anchor for every brand in your pod, with compounding results quarter over quarter.
