Position: Irrigation Technician
Reports to: Superintendent of Golf Courses & Parks & Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
General Responsibilities: The Irrigation Technician will oversee the irrigation systems, pump houses, water ways, headgates and golf course landscape features (flowers, trees, shrubs, etc.) and assist in overseeing both golf courses and the practice facility.
Essential Functions: The duties of the Irrigation Technician will include but not be limited to the following:
Responsibilities:
a. Direct, manage and supervise operation and maintenance of the irrigation systems on the golf courses.
b. Daily inspection of all pump houses: Record total water usage from the night before, inspect water level of Trout Pond and Pavilion Pond, adjust Willow Creek head gate accordingly, inspect inflow from the Eagle River culvert, inspect outflow into Stone Creek (clear any obstructions).
c. Assist in managing, operating, servicing, and repairing the varied components of a complex irrigation system.
d. Responsible for inventory and proper storage of irrigation parts and completing requests for irrigation parts and supplies.
e. Operate irrigation heads/hose/roller base on Greens, Tees, Fairways and Rough on areas that are dry and need additional water.
f. Exercise all main and lateral gate valves as part of preventative maintenance at least once a year.
g. Clean out and Audit field controllers as specified by supervisor.
h. Participate in the annual charge up and blow out of the irrigation system.
i. Participate in the construction process of special projects.
j. Assist in the general maintenance of the golf course as needed.
k. Exercise knowledgeable judgment in evaluating systems, informing supervisors of problems and taking corrective action when deemed necessary.
l. Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications/Skills:
- A basic knowledge of the game of golf.
- Working knowledge of construction, establishment, and maintenance practices employed on golf courses.
- Working knowledge of irrigation systems and watering practices.
- The capacity to do heavy physical labor.
- Experience operating light and heavy equipment, including servicing and ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
- Able to maintain a positive work attitude and appearance within EagleVail.
- Must possess leadership skills as well as being self-motivated.
- The desire to make a career of golf course management.
