Overview: A Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining all mechanical equipment throughout all MCC operations while complying with all applicable mining regulations and/or MCC policies at all times. Basic qualifications and/or traits that the Mobile Equipment Mechanic must possess include: 

  1. 1-3 experience as a mechanic and some formal training 
  2. Have a reliable attendance and safety record
  3. Ability to weld and use an oxy/acetylene cutting torch 
  4. Be able to give a take directions
  5. Diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines and drive train components 
  6. Be physically able to work with heavy components
  7. Ability to perform repairs outside or inside during adverse weather conditions
  8. Be available to work overtime, weekends, callouts, nights and holidays 
  9. Ability to multitask 

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Mobile Equipment Mechanic include but are not limited to:

    1. Safety inspections of all working areas shall be performed a minimum of once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be performed as conditions warrant. (i.e. changing weather conditions, operation of mechanical equipment changes, etc.)
      1. Workplace examinations must be performed to ensure that the employee and his/her fellow workers have a safe place to work. Workplace examinations must be performed completely; cursory inspections are not adequate.
      2. The Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for addressing and taking corrective actions when capable.
      3. If the employee is not capable of repairing an identified deficiency, the employee’s supervisor should be informed immediately so that MCC can initiate action to correct the deficient condition.
      4. Performance of corrective actions shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable federal / state regulations and company policies at all times.
    2. The Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs to all pieces of mobile equipment at Mountain Cement Company.
      1. Example of repairs include but are not limited to:
        1. Troubleshooting and repairing both diesel and gasoline powered mobile equipment. This includes repairs to drive trains, brakes (air and hydraulic), A/A. electrical, fuel, and hydraulic systems.
        2. Preventative maintenance of all mobile equipment.
    3. The Mobile Equipment Mechanic is responsible for performing housekeeping duties in his/her work area to remove hazards. Work activities must be performed while adhering to all applicable federal/state regulations and MCC company policies at all times.
          1. Clean up of the Mobile Equipment Mechanic's work area on a regular basis is the responsibility of the employee performing the work, messes and leftover materials are not to be left for other MCC personnel to clear. A job is not finished until clean up of the work area is completed.
    4. Ensure all documentation is completed accurately, thoroughly and in full compliance with MSHA and DOT regulatory requirements.
    5. Mobile equipment Mechanics must maintain an extensive set of tools upon being assigned to the job classification. A listing of tools will be provided upon hire.
    6. Mobile Equipment Mechanics operate mobile equipment on a regular basis. Proper task training and safe operations guidelines will be adhered to at all times. Employees will not operate any piece of mobile equipment without being properly task trained as required by MSHA regulations.

    8. Performs other work as directed.

      Education & Experience Requirements: The Mobile Equipment Mechanic will have a formal education along with previous technical experience. 

      • High school diploma or equivalent required
      • Valid Drivers License required
      • Formal education or certification in Automotive of Diesel Technology preferred
      • Experience working in industrial environment preferred

      Physical Requirements: The Mobile Equipment Mechanic position is safety sensitive. The physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

      • Working 8-12 hours shifts.
      • Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
      • Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing.
      • Lifting 65+ lbs regularly.
      • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
