About the role

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adapts to a variety of nonstandard problems that require extensive operator intervention (e.g. frequent introduction of new programs, applications, or procedures).
  • Responds to computer output instructions or error conditions and chooses or devises a course of action from among several alternatives and alters or deviates from standard procedures if standard procedures do not provide a solution (e.g. reassigning equipment to work around faulty equipment or transfer channels); then refers problems if necessary.
  • Provides end-user support related to computer hardware and software troubleshooting, repair, installations, configurations and maintenance.
  • Assists in maintaining the records for all IT assets inventory and completes all service tickets assigned using the MIS Registry application.
  • Receives minimal technical supervision from the System Administrator and depends on the dispatch schedule to perform assigned duties.
  • Reports to the Management Information Systems (MIS) department and must adhere to departmental procedures and performs work in accordance with relevant DZSP 21, DoD Information Assurance and Navy policies.
  • May lift heavy items of computer assets related to new IT requirements.
  • May be required to assist in the administration, backup, monitor, restoration and deployment of servers based on the developed checklist and reviewed by the System Administrator.
  • May perform additional duties reflect the duties of the IAT Level III outlined in DoD Directive 8570.01-M section C3.5.

 

Specific to Material Management, and in addition to the above:

  • Organizes, schedules, and prioritizes workload by using the MIS Help Desk Registry trouble ticket system.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs computer hardware and software problems.
  • Installs new computers and software as well as new work areas.
  • This may include lifting heavy equipment (printers, furniture, servers, etc.)
  • Assists in tracking hardware and software license inventories as well as equipment holders.
  • Assists with administration of server systems, backup & monitoring system availability.
  • Manages equipment maintenance (routine cleaning, service checks, software updates).
  • Tracks and decommissions obsolete hardware.
  • Identifies problem equipment and maintains demand replacement stock.
  • Assists with other special projects as assigned by Management to improve administration of the MIS infrastructure.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in IT hardware, software, and network configurations, or equivalent.
  • Must be able to apply practical knowledge working in a customer service and helpdesk environment.
  • Must have or able to obtain the following certification six (6) months of employment: A+ or Network+, Security + and one of the following: GIAC Certified Incident Handler (CCIH). Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), GIAC Security Expert (GSE), Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSIP) certification as the minimum requirement to perform Information Assurance technical level III and higher and administrative duties under the BOS contract to support the DZSP21 LLC employees and its customers.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Windows (i.e. XP, Vista, 7) and Windows Server (i.e. 2003, 2008) environment, to include server troubleshooting, apply security configurations to IT assets based on the standards provided in the DoD Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) or Microsoft Security Guidelines and lead IT projects to set up and deploy IT assets in workplaces and/or other IT related projects.
  • Must have advanced knowledge of Oracle database management to support specific applications is required to fulfill data backup and restoration procedures.
  • Must have advanced networking skills, such as firewall and Layer 3 switch configurations.
  • Must have experience in DNS, DHCP, virtual environments (preferably VMWare), Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, backup strategies and disaster recovery principles. 
  • Must be able to train and lead subordinate operators as required.
  • Desired:
    • Related Microsoft Certification courses and experience.
    • Knowledge and configuration for Voice over IP systems (i.e. Avaya) and Blackberry enterprise.
