Paralegal - Major Loss & Casualty

The Major Loss & Casualty team at DWF is one of the largest in the Scotland and is nationally recognised. We act for a large number of well-known insurers, many of whom are household names, dealing with complex, major and large loss claims.

The team is currently recruiting for a Paralegal or Senior Paralegal with EL/PL, Motor RTA, Fatal Accidents or Personal Injury experience, preferably defender side but pursuer experience will also be considered.

The Paralegal or Senior Paralegal will be supporting on a range of high value files from £1m, to £10m+ claims. There will also be some exposure to commercial insurance work as required.

The team is based in Edinburgh and Glasgow, but we are open to candidates based throughout Scotland, and are open to discussing the nature of the hybrid working patterns of this role.

Responsibilities

As a Paralegal or Senior Paralegal in our Major Loss & Casualty team, you will engage in a wide range of activities, such as:

• Supporting on a range of high value claims, compromising a variety of defender personal injury, EL/PL, Motor, RTA and fatal accidents claims.
• Drafting pleadings, reports to clients, attending court hearings, working to court deadlines, conducting liability investigations, gathering evidence, instructing experts and considering medical causation.
• Prioritising work effectively and to maximise efficiency in working practices, adhering to court deadlines and directions, as well as the client's service level agreements.
• Building working relationships internally and externally in order to maintain client relationships, develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm’s direction and client needs.
• Supporting the team on commercial insurance files as and when required.
  
  

What will help you succeed in this role?

Desirable Criteria

• Previous experience in personal injury, large loss, EL/PL, Motor, RTA, fatal accidents and/or casualty claims experience.
• Technically experienced in and/or a real interest in employer’s liability, public liability, RTA, and serious injury work.
• Ideally experienced handling high value defender personal injury files either in your own right, or as an assistant to more senior team members.
• Familiar with working in a commercial environment.
