Position Overview
Diversified Roofing is seeking an experienced Director of Labor to lead and optimize all labor operations within our Commercial Roofing Division. This role is critical to ensuring labor availability, productivity, quality, safety, and cost control across service and production teams. The Director of Labor will work closely with Senior Leadership, Operations, Safety, and Project Management to align workforce strategy with business objectives.
This position requires a strong background in commercial roofing labor management, deep field knowledge, and a proven ability to build, scale, and lead crews while maintaining efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Labor Strategy & Workforce Management
- Develop and execute labor strategies to support commercial service and production workloads
- Forecast labor needs by region, project size, and backlog
- Ensure proper staffing levels for crews, foremen, and superintendents
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of field labor
- Build scalable labor models using internal crews and qualified subcontractors
Operational Performance
- Drive labor productivity, efficiency, and quality standards
- Monitor labor costs, labor hours, and KPIs
- Partner with Operations and Project Management to align labor with schedules and budgets
- Identify and eliminate labor inefficiencies
Leadership & Development
- Lead and oversee all commercial Superintendents
- Establish clear expectations and accountability standards
- Develop training programs for skills growth and leadership progression
- Foster a culture of professionalism and performance
Safety & Compliance
- Partner with Safety leadership to maintain a safety-first culture
- Ensure OSHA and company policy compliance
- Enforce consistent safety practices across field labor
- Support incident investigations and corrective actions
Quality Control & Field Standards
- Establish standardized labor execution practices
- Ensure workmanship standards across commercial systems
- Address quality issues quickly and effectively
- Maintain feedback loops between field labor and estimating
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Operations, Project Management, Safety, and Estimating
- Support company growth and long-term workforce planning
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 10+ years of commercial roofing labor leadership experience
- Proven success managing large field labor teams
- Strong knowledge of TPO, PVC, EPDM, BUR, metal, and coatings
- Experience with labor cost control and productivity metrics
- Familiarity with self-performed labor and subcontractor models
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred
- Multi-market commercial roofing experience
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- OSHA 30+
- Strong change-management skills
