JOB SUMMARY

A DuraServ an Apprentice Technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial door and dock equipment at customer locations. The role requires mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, a safety-first mindset, and a strong commitment to customer service. Technicians work both independently and collaboratively to complete scheduled service calls and installations. Quality workmanship, clear communication, and professional conduct are key to success in this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist with the installation, service, and maintenance of commercial dock and door equipment under the direct supervision of experienced technicians, while learning manufacturer guidelines and company procedures.
  2. Observe and participate in basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting tasks to gain familiarity with various types of dock and door equipment, including rolling and sectional doors.
  3. Learn to safely use hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment to support installation tasks, such as preparing brackets or mounts, under guidance.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean job site, comply with all company safety policies, industry regulations, and adhere to all traffic laws and vehicle safety standards while operating company equipment.
  5. Begin developing the ability to read and interpret manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documents by reviewing materials alongside experienced team members.
  6. Practice documenting basic service activities by learning to record job details such as work performed, parts used, and technician observations, with feedback from mentors.
  7. Develop communication skills by observing and assisting in customer interactions, including job status updates and explanation of service needs, under supervision.
  8. Work as a contributing member of the team by assisting lead technicians on installations and service calls and adapting to changing priorities as assigned.
  9. Follow all safety protocols and training guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, and adherence to company and industry safety standards.
  10. Participate in the company's ADVANCE training program as part of daily responsibilities, completing required lessons and demonstrating learned skills on the job to progress in technical knowledge and proficiency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Willingness to learn about mechanical and electrical systems used in commercial door and dock equipment, including how they function and how to assist with basic diagnostics under supervision.
  2. Developing skill in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and basic fabrication equipment, with guidance from experienced technicians during installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
  3. Interest in learning to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and manuals, and apply that knowledge to assist in troubleshooting and equipment setup as proficiency grows.
  4. Awareness of job site safety practices, with a focus on learning OSHA safety standards and the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) through training and on-the-job instruction.
  5. Developing communication skills to interact respectfully and professionally with team members and customers, including learning how to give and receive clear information on job-related tasks.
  6. Willingness to follow directions, manage assigned tasks, and remain flexible, while building time management and problem-solving abilities needed to work effectively in a fast-paced service environment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  • Regular fieldwork at indoor and outdoor customer sites.
  • Extended periods in varying environmental conditions, including weather and noise.
  • Frequent standing, bending, ladder use, and operation of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.

PLANNED BUSINESS TRAVEL

  • This job requires less than 10% planned business travel.
  • This job requires vehicle travel to client sites.   

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Trade school certificate or diploma is acceptable.
  • Experience with the following is preferred: Welding, Mechanical Knowledge, Hydraulic knowledge, and Electrical. 
  • A valid current state-issued driver’s license is required.
