Role: Durability Simulation Engineer

About the Team and the Role:
The Simulation Center of Competence (CoC) is central to our virtual product development strategy, ensuring our electric vehicles meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, refinement and safety. The Durability Team ensures long-term product reliability by simulating real-world usage to identify and mitigate structural risks before physical testing. As a Durability Simulation Engineer within this team, you will develop and execute advanced finite element models to predict and enhance the strength, stiffness, and fatigue life of vehicle components and systems, directly contributing to the safety and reliability of our next-generation products.
Responsibilities:
- Perform virtual design validations through comprehensive static and dynamic FE analyses.
- Develop static linear and non-linear FEA models at the component, subsystem, and full-vehicle level for strength and durability analysis.
- Correlate complex FEA models with physical test data to ensure simulation accuracy and predictive capability.
- Perform comprehensive Fatigue Analysis to predict the service life and reliability of critical structural components.
- Perform virtual DVPs for Topology, Topography, Size and Shape Optimization and DOE’s for Durability and Stiffness.
- Perform explicit analysis for critical safety simulations, including crash, impact, and drop test scenarios.
Experience and Qualifications:
- B.Tech, M.Tech or MS in Mechanical, Automotive or Aerospace Engineering.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in Durability Simulations.
Must have Competencies:
- Strong fundamentals in strength of materials, theory of fatigue and theory of machines.
- In-depth understanding of the finite element methods and applications of material, contact, geometric and load non-linearities in FEA.
- Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard simulation software including Hyperworks (Optistruct, Hypermesh), Ansys Mechanical and fatigue solvers like nCode Design Life or FEMFAT.
Good to have Competencies:
- Experience with explicit analysis tools such as Radioss, LS-Dyna, Abaqus(Explicit).
- Experience with optimization tools like OptiSlang or HyperStudy.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or TCL/TK for process automation.
- Familiarity with simulating the durability of plastics/composite materials.
