The Payroll Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of all DTA employee payrolls, as well as general accounting functions during non-payroll periods. This position requires both strong payroll expertise and foundational accounting skills and plays an important supporting role in the department’s day-to-day financial operations.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Functions (Primary):
a) Records, verifies and posts all data necessary for the timely completion of bi-weekly payrolls.
b) Computes and distributes payroll deductions into appropriate General Ledger accounts.
c) Prepares timely summary reports of data for accounting, governmental and internal reporting.
d) Prepares and distributes payroll checks and direct deposit files for net wages, taxes, benefits, and miscellaneous deductions.
e) Performs all related duties in the preparation and distribution of annual W-2 tax forms for all employees.
f) Monitors employee work activity to determine benefit contribution eligibility. Prepares and submits a monthly report to appropriate agencies.
g) Performs other related duties as may be required.
h) Maintains all required payroll records and documentation in accordance with applicable regulations.
i) Stays current with federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements and ensures compliance.
j) Supports the annual audit by providing payroll-related documentation and reconciliations.
Accounting Functions (Secondary):
a) Performs general ledger account reconciliations and assists with month-end close processes.
b) Assists with the preparation of financial reports and schedules as needed.
c) Performs other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
a) Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
b) Minimum of two (2) years of payroll processing experience.
c) Working knowledge of payroll tax requirements (federal, state, and local).
d) Proficiency with computerized payroll systems.
e) Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
f) Good written and oral communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
a) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
b) Experience with UKG Ready or a comparable payroll platform.
c) General ledger accounting experience, including account reconciliation and month-end close.
d) Experience in a government, public sector, or nonprofit environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
a) Must be able to sit for an extended period of time.
b) Must have manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment.
c) Must be able to pick up and carry 25lbs.
d) Must be able to drive an automobile.
