Role overview
The Drupal Frontend Developer is responsible for the frontend layer of Drupal 10/11 client projects. The responsibilities include translating Figma designs into accessible and performant themes, building reusable components using approaches appropriate to each project, and maintaining clear technical documentation that supports both ongoing internal work and future engineer handoffs.
This is a delivery role with stakeholder exposure. The role involves regular calls and written communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including direct interaction with clients. Candidates should be comfortable explaining technical decisions and trade-offs to varied audiences.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Drupal 10/11 custom themes and sub-themes
- Develop reusable, well-structured components using approaches appropriate to each project, including Single Directory Components (SDC) where relevant
- Implement Twig templates with clean preprocess function logic
- Convert Figma designs into responsive, accessible interfaces meeting WCAG 2.2 AA, with proper use of semantic HTML and ARIA patterns
- Work alongside backend developers to integrate dynamic content via Drupal APIs (JSON:API, REST)
- Optimize for Core Web Vitals and Drupal performance layers, including BigPipe, Dynamic Page Cache, and asset aggregation
- Implement technical SEO best practices including semantic markup, metadata, and structured data
- Debug and resolve UI issues across browsers and devices
- Maintain technical documentation that records implementation approach, key decisions, and reusable patterns — supporting both internal continuity and future engineer handoffs
- Communicate with project stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, and with clients as required
- Participate in component and design system discussions; raise alternatives or concerns when project requirements warrant it
Required qualifications
- 2 to 4 years of professional experience with Drupal as the primary stack
- A minimum of 2 years on Drupal 9, 10, or 11 (candidates with experience limited to Drupal 7 are not a fit for this role)
- Strong Twig templating and preprocess function fluency, with working knowledge of PHP fundamentals
- Working knowledge of Views and Layout Builder
- Modern JavaScript (ES6+) and familiarity with the Drupal Behaviors pattern
- HTML5 and CSS3, including SCSS or utility-first CSS approaches
- Composer, Drush, and Git workflow discipline
- Proficiency with local Drupal development environments such as DDEV, Lando, or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience delivering WCAG 2.2 AA-compliant work that has passed accessibility review, with familiarity in semantic HTML and ARIA patterns
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments using Jira
- Comfort with AI development tools such as code assistants and workflow automation to improve productivity
Preferred qualifications
- TypeScript experience
- React or Next.js exposure
- Custom Drupal module development
- Drupal Canvas experience
- Drupal AI exposure
- SSH and command-line proficiency
- Acquia certification (Site Builder, Front End Specialist, or Developer)
- Active drupal.org profile with public contributions, themes, modules, or patches
- Multilingual Drupal site experience
- Familiarity with Acquia Cloud or Pantheon hosting environments
- DrupalCamp attendance or speaking experience
Outside the scope of this role
- Drupal backend architecture and complex business logic
- Frontend work outside the Drupal ecosystem
Operating principles
The following principles govern how the BizFinLabs team works and what is expected of team members:
- Same-day logging. Client commitments are recorded in the project management system before end of day.
- Written-first. Decisions, briefs, and follow-ups are documented in writing. Verbal discussions clarify; written records confirm.
- Client confidence over internal convenience. When facing trade-offs, the choice that protects client trust is preferred, even where it involves additional internal effort.
- Early and complete communication. Blockers and risks are raised within four working hours, not at the deadline.
- Reasoning made visible. Outputs include the rationale behind them where relevant.
- Consistent delivery standard across clients. The smallest engagement receives the same delivery quality as the largest.
- Considered judgment with cost discipline. Billable time is reviewed against the value it creates for the client.
Candidates whose working approach aligns with these principles will find the environment supportive and structured.
Working arrangements
- Working hours: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST, Monday to Friday. This shift accommodates international client calls, which extend into the late evening IST.
- Location: Fully remote across India
- Reporting: To the CEO or project lead at BizFinLabs
Remote work standards
Given the client-facing nature of the role, candidates are expected to have or establish:
- A dedicated workspace with adequate lighting for video calls, capable of maintaining a quiet, professional environment
- A primary internet connection of at least 100 Mbps, supplemented by a backup connection such as a 4G or 5G dongle or mobile hotspot
- Power backup (UPS or inverter) adequate to maintain availability during working hours
- Quality audio equipment, specifically a USB microphone or closed-back headphones with a built-in microphone (laptop microphones are not acceptable for client-facing calls)
A company laptop and essential WFH accessories are provided as part of the onboarding package.
Compensation and benefits
Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capability, and will be discussed during the screening process. The structure includes:
- Variable component: 10 to 15 percent of annual fixed compensation, paid annually upon completion of each year from the date of joining, tied to delivery, communication, and documentation key result areas
- Onboarding package: company laptop and essential work-from-home accessories provided at joining
- Internet reimbursement: ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 per month, applicable post-probation
- Group health insurance: introduced at team size of 5 or more
- Paid leave: 18 days annually, in addition to standard public holidays
- Annual learning and development budget, applicable post-probation
- Mentorship from experienced practitioners on the team
Hiring process
We follow a multi-stage process that includes initial screening, a technical discussion, a time-boxed take-home assessment, and reference checks. The full process and stage-wise expectations are shared with candidates upon application acknowledgment.
