What are we looking for?

  • Strategic Marketing and Communications Expertise Proven experience in developing and implementing integrated marketing, communications, and PR strategies, including digital and social media campaigns. Ability to provide strategic oversight and thought leadership on branding, reputation management, and digital engagement. Up-to-date knowledge of marketing best practices, legal, and ethical considerations in communications. 2. Digital and Social Media Proficiency Strong understanding of digital channels, including website management, social media platforms, and digital advertising. Experience in leveraging digital tools to broaden reach, increase engagement, and drive campaigns. 3. Relationship Building and Influencing Track record of building and managing relationships with stakeholders, media, and key influencers. 4. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills Capacity to analyse market trends, evaluate campaign effectiveness, and interpret complex information to inform decisions. Ability to identify and manage reputational risks and opportunities. 5. Governance and Board-Level Experience Understanding of charity governance, compliance, and the strategic role of trustees. Experience working at a strategic level, contributing to board discussions, and supporting collective decision-making. 6. Communication and Collaboration Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex digital and marketing concepts to non-specialists. Willingness to participate actively in board discussions and work collaboratively with other trustees and staff. 7. Commitment to the Charity’s Mission and Values Strong personal commitment to the charity’s vision, mission, and values, including equity, diversity, and inclusion. Willingness to act in the best interests of the charity and uphold the highest standards of integrity and accountability. 8. Additional Desirable Skills Experience in fundraising, stakeholder engagement, or public affairs can be advantageous. Coaching or mentoring abilities to support staff or volunteers.

What will you be doing?

As Marketing and PR Trustee, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering our marketing, communications, and public relations strategy. You will act as a source of expertise and support, working closely with the CEO and fellow trustees to Develop and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan to broaden awareness of Dragonfly Cancer Trust’s mission and increase our visibility to a wider audience. Provide guidance on digital marketing, social media, and campaign strategies, including exploring new platforms and revenue opportunities. Champion our brand, ensuring consistent messaging and engaging storytelling across all channels. Identify and capitalise on opportunities to raise the charity’s profile and forge new partnerships. Advise on managing and mitigating reputational risk. Key Responsibilities Assess current marketing and communications practices and make recommendations for growth and development. Support the ongoing development of the charity’s brand and digital presence, including website upgrades and social media engagement. Provide expert advice to the Board and staff, enabling sound decision-making on marketing and PR matters. Promote the interests of Dragonfly Cancer Trust at every opportunity. Attend quarterly Board meetings (in person or via Zoom) and the AGM, contributing actively to discussions and strategy. Person Specification We are looking for someone with Substantial experience in marketing, communications, or PR, ideally within the charity sector. A track record of delivering successful campaigns and increasing organisational profile. Strong digital and social media expertise, with the ability to guide strategy and implementation. Excellent networking, influencing, and communication skills. Strategic vision, creativity, and independent judgement. Commitment to the vision and values of Dragonfly Cancer Trust, and willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to the role. Personal or professional understanding of the impact of cancer on young people’s lives is desirable, or a willingness to learn about this area.
