Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Drafting Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The ideal
candidate will have a strong background in mechanical drafting with hands-on experience in
HVAC/refrigeration systems and structural design. This role is central to building Octolife’s internal
engineering drafting competency as we scale our product development capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Refrigeration & HVAC Drafting
• Prepare detailed 2D engineering drawings and 3D models for refrigeration system components,
including heat exchangers, condensers, evaporators, compressors, and system tubing, controller etc.,
• Develop assembly, sub-assembly, and part drawings for indoor and outdoor AC units in compliance
with applicable standards (BIS, ISO, IEC).
• Support design of critical components such as condenser coils, fin arrays, tube-sheet configurations,
and manifold assemblies.
Structural Design Drafting
• Develop structural drawings for sheet-metal enclosures, mounting frames, and support brackets for
both indoor and outdoor AC units.
• Prepare detailed fabrication drawings for welded, bent, and bolted sheet-metal structures with
appropriate GD&T annotations.
• Collaborate with the mechanical team to ensure structural integrity, vibration resistance, and
serviceability are reflected in all drafts.
CAD Modelling & Documentation
• Create and maintain parametric 3D CAD models using SolidWorks.
• Manage and maintain the engineering drawing register, revision history, and bill of materials (BOM) in
a structured PLM or document control system.
• Generate and update Design Change Points (DCPs) and drawing revisions as required during
product development cycles.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with product design, thermal engineering, and manufacturing teams to align drawings
with design intent and manufacturability requirements.
• Liaise with suppliers, tool makers and component suppliers to review and validate supplier drawings
and ensure compatibility with Octolife’s system design.
• Support prototype builds and pre-production runs by providing accurate fabrication and assembly
drawings.
Standards & Quality Compliance
• Ensure all engineering drawings comply with relevant national and international standards (BIS IS
1391, IC 60335, etc.).
• Identify and flag any design discrepancies, fit/form/function issues early in the development cycle.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background
• Diploma (or ITI) in Mechanical Engineering with exceptional relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
• 3–7 years of proven experience in mechanical/HVAC drafting and design.
• Demonstrable experience working on room air conditioners, refrigeration systems, or similar HVAC
products is highly preferred.
• Start-up or product development environment experience is a strong plus.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (must-have) and AutoCAD 2D; exposure to CATIA or Creo is a plus.
• Strong understanding of refrigeration cycle principles, component sizing, and heat exchanger
geometry.
• Working knowledge of sheet-metal design, fabrication processes (laser cutting, bending, welding),
and DFM principles.
• Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5.
• Understanding of BOM structure and revision management in a PLM/PDM environment.
Soft Skills
• High attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy and consistency.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple drawing deliverables in a fast-paced start-up
environment.
• Proactive communication and willingness to collaborate across engineering disciplines.
• Curiosity to learn and grow with a product-focused engineering team.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have)
• Exposure to CFD or FEA post-processing for drawing correlation with simulation outputs.
• Knowledge of refrigerants (R32, R410A, R290) and relevant safety/handling norms.
• Experience with thermodynamic system sizing tools (CoolProp, Engineering Equation Solver, or
similar).
