About the role
Plans, coordinates, develops, and implements an individual and group counseling program for assigned students, in compliance with government and management directives.
What you'll do
- Provide educational, career technical, personal, and social adjustment counseling in individual and group settings.
- Review student background files, conduct personal interviews, and assess students to determine appropriate placement into Center programs.
- Conduct new student intakes, Morning Report follow-up, attendance accountability, AWOL retrieval, leave, and separation services.
- Lead ongoing evaluation of student progress (ESP) process and recommend programmatic and behavioral changes student based on progress/barriers.
- Participate in other Center programs including new student orientation, leadership, various groups, and TEAP.
- As appropriate, refer cases to Mental Health Consultant for psychological evaluation of student mental and emotional problems.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of all counseling activity.
- Maintain student accountability and participate in student retrieval as required.
- Assist in training Center staff related to counseling services and related systems, processes, and requirements.
- Coordinate with Career Transition Services to provide guidance and career counseling to students, referring them to college placement, military placement, and off-Center programs.
- Assist students in arranging emergency leave.
- Coordinate specialty counseling programs, as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (including 15 semester hours of instruction in social services-related instruction).
- One year experience in counseling or related field.
- Valid driver’s license.
