Job details:
The Opportunity-
The database market is being rewritten. Legacy monoliths can't deliver the scale, resilience, and cloud-native architecture that modern applications and AI agents demand. YugabyteDB is leading that transformation with YugabyteDB, the distributed SQL database built to run anywhere, at any scale, without forcing a trade-off between consistency and reach.
We're hiring a Director of Product Marketing to own how the world understands that story.
This is a global role based in Bangalore. You will own positioning and messaging for our core products worldwide, not for a single region, and you will be the senior product marketing voice in India. You'll work at the intersection of product, demand generation, sales, community, and developer relations, turning deep technical reality into narratives that differentiate and drive the pipeline.
What You'll Do-
- Own end-to-end positioning and messaging for YugabyteDB products, grounded in real customer problems and honest competitive assessment.
- Lead global product launches, coordinating product, engineering, sales, marketing, and DevRel to bring new capabilities to market with impact. You own the outcome, not just the launch checklist.
- Write and produce creative and credible content technically: solution briefs, battle cards, pitch decks, white papers, analyst submissions, and demo narratives that the field actually uses and buyers actually finish.
- Own competitive intelligence across PostgreSQL-compatible databases, distributed SQL entrants, cloud-provider offerings, and legacy RDBMS vendors. Keep it rigorous, keep it current, and make it usable in a live deal.
- Run analyst relations alongside the VP: briefings, inquiries, and submissions to Gartner, Forrester, and GigaOm.
- Partner with developer relations so community messaging, open-source storytelling, and go-to-market motion reinforce each other rather than diverge.
- Build sales enablement that shortens ramp time and lifts win rates. Be the person a seller calls the night before a competitive bake-off.
- Drive partner and ecosystem marketing, with particular focus on the AI ecosystem: model providers, agent frameworks, and AI infrastructure partners.
- Report on pipeline influenced, win rate against named competitors, launch adoption, and content engagement, and use those numbers to decide what to stop doing.
- Feed market signal back into the roadmap. You'll have a standing seat with Product and leadership, and we expect you to use it.
What You Bring-
We're hiring for a high bar, and these are the things we require from the candidates:
- 10+ years in product marketing, with substantial time in databases, data infrastructure, or cloud-native platforms. You know this terrain, and you don't need a ramp to understand why replication and consistency models matter.
- Technical credibility. You don't need to write production code, but you need to hold your own with a staff engineer or a skeptical DBA and earn their respect in the first ten minutes.
- A portfolio of positioning and messaging work you can walk us through: what the market believed before, what you changed, and how you knew it worked.
- Experience supporting a developer-led or open-source motion. You understand that community trust is earned slowly and spent quickly.
- Demonstrated ownership of cross-functional launches where you carried the outcome, not just the project plan.
- Exceptional writing. A post, a one-pager, and an analyst brief should all read like they came from the same clear-thinking company.
- Good presentation skills. Expect to present to a technical audience during virtual and in-person events
- Startup or scale-up experience. You operate with speed, ambiguity, and fewer resources than the plan assumed.
- Fluency with AI tooling in your actual workflow( research, drafting, competitive monitoring, synthesis). Be ready to show us how it changed your throughput, not just that you've tried it.
- Comfort operating from India on a global charter. Flexibility for local and international travel.
Nice to have-
- Meaningful depth in PostgreSQL, distributed systems, or cloud infrastructure.
- Experience marketing an open-source product alongside a commercial offering.
- Prior analyst relations ownership.
- Experience as the first senior marketing hire in a region.
