Job Summary
The
Director of Engineering – BenTech Integrations is a senior engineering leader responsible for leading execution, delivery health, and team performance for India-based engineering teams that build and support integration capabilities connecting our carrier systems with the HCM and benefits administration platforms our employer clients and broker partners depend on, including platforms such as Workday, ADP, UKG, Benefitfocus, PlanSource, Businessolver, and others.
This leader partners closely with US-based engineering, product, architecture, and operations leadership to translate strategic direction and roadmap priorities into effective delivery plans and strong execution across teams supporting quoting and proposal, case implementation and configuration, enrollment and eligibility management, premium billing and reconciliation, and claims experience data flows.
As a leader of leaders, this role is accountable for developing Engineering Managers and senior technical talent in Bengaluru while strengthening engineering discipline, delivery predictability, quality, and operational readiness. The Director works closely with US-based architecture and product partners to implement approved technical direction, support standards adoption such as LIMRA LDEx, and ensure India-based teams deliver reliable, scalable solutions aligned to enterprise engineering practices and business priorities.
- Ability to work on-site in Bengaluru, India is a requirement of the role.
Mode of Working: This role follows a hybrid work model, with a primary base in Bengaluru. While on-site presence is essential for key engagements, flexibility is offered for remote work based on business needs and team alignment.
Responsibilities
Delivery Execution & Predictability
- Lead delivery execution for India-based BenTech engineering teams, ensuring commitments are delivered with predictable throughput, clear dependency management, and transparent communication to US-based stakeholders.
- Translate product and engineering strategy into actionable delivery plans, team objectives, and release outcomes for India-based teams.
- Drive strong execution across multiple agile teams, removing obstacles, managing risks, and improving flow from planning through production support.
Engineering Leadership & Team Development
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing engineering organization in Bengaluru, including engineering managers and senior individual contributors, with a culture of accountability, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
- Coach leaders and teams on agile delivery, engineering discipline, and cross-functional collaboration aligned to BenTech integration delivery and enterprise ways of working.
- Partner with US-based engineering leadership on workforce planning, team structure, and capability development to support delivery goals.
Quality, Reliability, & Operational Excellence
- Establish and reinforce engineering practices that balance delivery velocity with quality and reliability, including automated testing, CI/CD maturity, monitoring, incident response, and production readiness.
- Drive operational rigor across integration delivery, including defect reduction, issue resolution, escalation management, and service health transparency.
- Ensure readiness for critical business periods, including Annual Enrollment and Open Enrollment, through coordinated planning, capacity preparation, and operational playbooks.
- Ensure delivery teams operate in alignment with enterprise engineering, security, risk, and data governance standards, with appropriate controls for production readiness and ongoing support.
Technical Execution & Cross-Team Alignment
- Lead implementation of integration solutions aligned to approved architecture, engineering standards, and product priorities.
- Partner with US-based product, architecture, and engineering leaders to operationalize roadmap priorities, standards adoption, and technical decisions across India-based teams.
- Support technical coordination with internal and external partners to enable successful delivery, issue resolution, and ongoing integration reliability.
Data Quality & Controls
- Drive strong execution of data validation, reconciliation, exception handling, and support processes to improve integration accuracy and reduce downstream operational issues.
- Define and monitor delivery and service metrics such as throughput, quality, SLA performance, and readiness indicators, using data to drive continuous improvement.
Skills And Background You’ll Need
A Bachelor's degree is required. A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience
- Typically requires 10 – 12+ years’ experience within IT and 4+ years’ experience managing IT employees, or the equivalent combination of education/experience.
- Deep experience designing and operating integration platforms at scale – including API design, event-driven architecture, data transformation, EDI/file-based exchange, and integration middleware.
- Demonstrated track record building and leading engineering teams in India within a globally distributed model, with experience hiring, developing managers, and cultivating engineering culture.
- Experience with cloud-native integration architecture on Azure or AWS (API Management, Service Bus/EventBridge, serverless compute).
- Experience with Agile delivery frameworks, DevOps principles, and modern software engineering and product practices.
- Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of the US employee benefits domain – including group insurance products (life, disability, supplemental health), employer lifecycle processes, and the BenTech/HCM ecosystem is preferred.
- Experience working with BenTech platforms such as Workday, ADP, UKG, Benefitfocus, Businessolver, PlanSource, or similar benefits administration and HCM systems is preferred.
- Familiarity with LIMRA LDEx Standards (BEM, BCM, EOIS) or other industry data exchange standards (EDI 834, ACORD) is preferred.
Preferred
- Background in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries with data governance and compliance requirements.
- Experience leading engineering through a platform modernization and transformation – transitioning from legacy batch/file-based integration to real-time, API-first patterns.
- Exposure to AI-assisted development practices or interest in leveraging AI tooling to accelerate integration development and testing.
- Preferred certifications: SAFe, TOGAF, or equivalent architectural/delivery framework certifications.
