The Role
We're hiring a Director of Engineering to own our engineering org end-to-end—from infrastructure reliability to shipping product—while growing and managing a team of engineers. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll be setting technical direction, holding architecture decisions, and getting your hands dirty when needed.
You'll work closely with the CTO on the roadmap and represent engineering in cross-functional decisions. This is an early strategic hire; what you build here will define how VoxyHealth scales.
What You'll Own
- Engineering org leadership — manage a team of SDEs (SDE 1–3), set expectations, run hiring, and build a high-performance culture
- Infrastructure—Kubernetes (kube), Docker, Azure, ensure reliability, cost efficiency, and security posture
- Product delivery — drive sprint execution, remove blockers, and hold the team accountable to shipping
- Architecture — own technical architecture across voice AI pipeline, EHR integrations, and multi-tenant backend systems (MERN + Python)
- AI/Voice Platform — deep involvement in voice AI tooling, model integration, and real-time processing pipelines
- Healthcare compliance — ensure systems meet HIPAA requirements; drive security reviews and audit-readiness
- Engineering standards — code review culture, incident response, testing philosophy, observability
What We're Looking For
Must-Have
8+ years of software engineering
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes + Docker — you can debug a pod in production
- AWS and Azure — multi-cloud deployments, IAM, cost optimization, networking
- MERN stack (MongoDB, Express, React, Node.js) systems
- Experience managing and growing engineers — from hiring bar-setting to performance conversations
- Strong written and verbal communication — can explain a system design to a non-technical stakeholder
- Voice AI / conversational AI—worked with real-time speech, STT/TTS pipelines, telephony (SIP/WebRTC), or LLM-powered agents
Strong Plus
- Healthcare domain knowledge — HIPAA, EHR integrations (HL7/FHIR), or prior work in health tech
- Experience integrating with EHR platforms (ECW, Practice Fusion, Epic, RingCentral Health)
- Familiarity with Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools—we mandate their use across the engineering team
Mindset
- Bias toward execution — you get things done and hold your team to the same standard
- Comfortable with ambiguity—VoxyHealth is growing fast; not everything has a playbook yet
- You've shipped in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar)
- You think in systems but can zoom into a single PR when the moment calls for it
What You'll Manage
- A team of 10–15 engineers across voice AI, EHR integrations, and infrastructure workstreams
- Mixed cloud + bare-metal infrastructure serving real-time voice and data pipelines
- Engineering process: standups, retros, sprint planning, incident response
