Role Overview:
The Director of Distance Learning and Online Learning holds a leadership position responsible for overseeing the academic, administrative, and strategic aspects for the University. He/she works directly under the supervision of the VC. His/her duties and responsibilities are given below.
- To take the leadership role in shaping the university's online education strategy, ensuring the quality of online programs, and contributing to the overall success of the institution in the digital learning landscape.
- To develop and implement a strategic plan for distance and online learning that aligns with the university's overall mission and goals.
- To stay informed about trends and advancements in online education to inform strategic planning.
- To collaborate with academic departments to design and develop online courses, certificates, and programs.
- To ensure that online programs meet academic standards and align with accreditation requirements.
- To provide support and resources for faculty involved in online teaching.
- To develop and deliver training programs to enhance the pedagogical skills of online instructors.
- To oversee the selection and integration of technology platforms for online learning, ensuring user-friendly and effective tools.
- To establish and enforce quality assurance standards for online courses and programs with Statutory affiliations and accreditation.
- To implement assessment and evaluation processes to continuously improve the quality of online education.
- To collaborate with student support services to ensure that online students have access to necessary resources, advising, creating resources, and publishing.
- To address concerns related to online student engagement and success.
- To develop and manage the budget for distance and online learning initiatives.
- To allocate resources effectively to support the growth and sustainability of online programs.
- To work with the University's marketing and admissions teams to promote online programs and attract a diverse pool of students.
- To develop and implement recruitment strategies for online learners.
- To utilize data analytics to track and report on key performance indicators related to online learning.
- To use data to inform decision-making and improve the effectiveness of online programs.
- To collaborate with academic departments, IT services, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the seamless integration of online learning initiatives.
- To foster partnerships with industry, government, and educational organizations to enhance online education opportunities.
- To ensure that online programs comply with accreditation standards, state and federal regulations, and other relevant policies.
- To stay informed about changes in regulations affecting online education.
- To lead efforts to assess and improve the effectiveness of online learning initiatives.
- To seek feedback from faculty and students to inform ongoing improvements.
- To stay informed about best practices in online education and participate in professional development opportunities.
- To prepare reports to the government agencies (Distance Education Council, NTSC...etc), represent the University for getting permission for running UGC approved online and distance learning programs.
- To encourage the professional development of staff involved in online learning.
Education:
- Master’s Degree or Ph.D (Doctor of Philosophy) in relevant field.
- Advance degree in relevant field / Certification course (Additional Qualification).
Experience Required:
- 15 - 20 yrs + preferred University / Industrial experience.
Skills Required:
- Leadership, project management, data analysis, communication, understanding of accessibility (ADA).
- Experience in higher education, significant leadership in online/distance learning, proven track record in enrollment growth, LMS expertise, accreditation knowledge.
