Role Description
We would like to hire a Head of Communications at Social Alpha. This is not a "brand storytelling" role. Not a "strategy" role. Definitely not a "leverage AI to scale content" role. This is not an agency management role - we don't have any.
It is a "content craft" role. First, last, and always.
We are a non-profit working at the intersection of science and development — across the challenges of climate, health, and livelihoods. The work is genuinely complex. The stories are genuinely impactful. And too much of what gets communicated in this space is genuinely terrible — sanitised, jargon-heavy, data-free, narratively inert.
We want to fix that. Starting with ourselves.
If you believe the quality of communication must match the quality of the work — that disruptively good work deserves disruptively good narrative — we should talk.
AI tools also create lovely content nowadays. We don't mind using them. This post has been created using AI. But you will not outsource your thinking to them. The tools serve the narrative. Not the other way around.
This is a hands-on, cross-functional, get-it-done role. No strategy decks without execution.
What we need:
- Someone who reads. Widely.
- Someone who translates complexity without dumbing it down.
- Someone who treats data as narrative infrastructure, not decoration.
- Someone with enough intellectual confidence to push back when the story isn't there yet.
If raising the bar for how science and social innovation get communicated excites you — let's talk.
Before you decide to apply, please learn about us and our work. Have a look at all our communication across channels, and send a short note explaining why you are the right person, and show us something you're proud of. That's the only filter that matters.
