The Opportunity
Queen Elizabeth’s Global Schools is seeking an outstanding and experienced Director of Boarding to lead the development of a world-class residential programme within a premium international school setting.
This is a rare opportunity to build and shape a boarding culture from the ground up, one that reflects the highest standards of pastoral care, student wellbeing, and holistic development. The Director of Boarding will play a central role in establishing a safe, structured, and enriching environment that nurtures independent, confident, and globally minded young people.
Working as a key member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Boarding will drive strategy, oversee operations, and embed a culture of excellence, ensuring that boarding becomes a defining pillar of the school’s identity and value proposition.
The role is ideally suited to a seasoned boarding professional with international experience who brings both strategic vision and hands-on leadership, along with a deep commitment to safeguarding and student care.
The Role
Strategic Leadership & Programme Development
- Provide visionary leadership for the boarding provision, establishing a clear strategic direction aligned with the school’s mission and long-term growth plans.
- Design and implement a high-quality residential programme that integrates academic support, wellbeing, co-curricular engagement, and life skills development.
- Position boarding as a centre of excellence and a key differentiator within the premium education landscape.
Boarding Operations & Infrastructure
- Oversee the full operational management of the boarding house(s), including accommodation, catering, health services, safety, and logistics.
- Ensure systems, routines, and structures are robust, efficient, and reflective of international best practices.
- Manage budgets, resources, and vendor partnerships (e.g., catering, housekeeping, security), ensuring high standards and cost efficiency.
Student Wellbeing, Safeguarding & Pastoral Care
- Lead and uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, child protection, and pastoral care.
- Establish a nurturing, inclusive, and disciplined boarding environment that supports students’ emotional, social, and academic development.
- Implement proactive wellbeing frameworks, behaviour systems, and student support mechanisms.
- Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (or equivalent), ensuring full compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
Team Leadership & Culture Building
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing boarding team, including house parents, residential staff, and support personnel.
- Foster a strong, values-driven culture centred on care, accountability, and professionalism.
- Provide coaching, performance management, and continuous professional development for all boarding staff.
Student Experience & Enrichment
- Design and deliver a rich and engaging boarding experience, including structured evening and weekend programmes.
- Promote student leadership through prefect systems, student councils, and peer mentoring initiatives.
- Ensure a balanced student lifestyle integrating academics, wellbeing, recreation, and personal growth.
Parent Engagement & Community Relations
- Build strong, trust-based relationships with parents through transparent and proactive communication.
- Serve as the senior point of contact for all boarding-related matters, ensuring responsiveness and professionalism.
- Support admissions and marketing teams by showcasing boarding as a premium offering to prospective families.
Crisis Management & Student Safety
- Lead the response to emergencies, incidents, and critical situations within the boarding environment.
- Establish clear protocols for medical care, student discipline, and crisis management.
- Maintain a culture of vigilance and accountability across all aspects of student safety.
Compliance, Safeguarding & Reporting
- Ensure all boarding operations comply with school policies, safeguarding standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain policies aligned with best practices in residential school environments.
- Maintain accurate records, incident logs, and reports, sharing updates and insights with senior leadership.
- Act in accordance with safeguarding policies, ensuring that student safety and wellbeing remain central to all boarding activities.
- Promptly report any safeguarding concerns in line with school procedures.
The Person
Qualifications and Experience
- Graduate or postgraduate qualification in Education, Psychology, Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum 10–15 years’ experience in residential school environments, student life, or pastoral leadership roles, with at least 3–5 years in a senior boarding leadership position.
- Proven experience in leading and managing boarding houses or residential programmes, preferably within international or premium independent schools.
- Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing teams within a 24/7 residential environment.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, child protection, compliance frameworks, and student wellbeing practices.
- Experience working in international, multicultural, or high-expectation school environments is highly desirable.
