Role Overview
The Director – Government Affairs & Public Policy will lead client engagements across sectors, advising on regulatory strategy, policy advocacy, and government engagement. This role requires a blend of strategic thinking, deep policy understanding, and client management expertise to deliver high-impact outcomes in a dynamic regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Advisory & Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on government affairs and public policy matters
- Lead multiple client mandates across sectors (e.g., technology, electronics, manufacturing, healthcare, etc.)
- Build and maintain senior-level client relationships, ensuring high client satisfaction and retention
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and expanding client engagements
2. Policy Strategy & Advocacy
- Design and execute advocacy strategies aligned with client business objectives
- Provide forward-looking policy insights and scenario planning
- Lead drafting of position papers, policy submissions, and consultation responses
- Guide clients on regulatory risks, market entry strategies, and policy positioning
3. Government & Stakeholder Engagement
- Leverage networks to facilitate engagement with government ministries, regulators, and policymakers
- Represent clients in industry forums, consultations, and policy discussions
- Build coalitions through industry bodies, think tanks, and associations
4. Practice Building & Thought Leadership
- Contribute to building the firm’s government affairs and public policy practice
- Develop sectoral expertise and create knowledge assets (reports, whitepapers, insights)
- Lead internal capability building and mentor junior team members
- Drive visibility through thought leadership, events, and external engagements
5. Policy Intelligence & Risk Advisory
- Oversee tracking and analysis of legislative and regulatory developments
- Translate complex policy changes into strategic business implications for clients
- Provide crisis/regulatory risk advisory and mitigation strategies
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Law, Public Policy, Economics, or related field preferred
10–15 years of relevant experience in government affairs, public policy consulting, corporate affairs, or regulatory roles
Prior experience in consulting/advisory firms, industry associations, or government is highly desirable
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of policymaking and regulatory processes (India focus, global exposure a plus)
- Proven experience in managing clients and leading complex engagements
- Excellent drafting and communication skills (policy papers, briefs, presentations)
- Strong stakeholder network across government and industry
- Commercial acumen and ability to drive business growth
- Leadership and team management capabilities
