Role: Director – Quality & Automation Engineering
Reports to: VP – Engineering / VP – Quality Engineering
About the Job:
We are seeking a hands-on engineering leader to build and run a multi-disciplinary team accountable for three interlocking charters:
- Test Automation — engineering-grade automated testing across Mobileum's telecom products (SDET-led)
- Cloud-Native Deployment Automation — GitOps-based, repeatable deployment of products across 1,000+ customer environments (DevOps-led)
- Performance Engineering — load, stress, and capacity validation for carrier-grade, high-throughput, low-latency systems
This leader owns the strategy, delivery, hiring, and technical direction for the team, and is accountable for measurable improvements in release quality, deployment velocity, and system performance. The role is both a people leader (managing Technical Leads and senior engineers) and a technical authority who can go deep in architecture reviews across all three charters.
Roles & Responsibility: -
Organizational Leadership
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing team spanning SDET, DevOps/Cloud-Native, and Performance Engineering.
- Line-manage Technical Leads (SDET and DevOps) and set clear goals, career paths, and performance standards.
- Establish team operating model, on-call/escalation practices, and engineering culture.
Test Automation Strategy
- Define the automation-first quality strategy — framework selection, coverage targets, and shift-left practices.
- Drive adoption of scalable, maintainable test frameworks integrated into CI/CD quality gates.
- Champion AI-assisted testing and risk-based test prioritization to reduce regression cycle time.
Cloud-Deployment Automation
- Own the strategy for automating deployment of cloud-native solutions across customer environments (on-prem and cloud).
- Establish GitOps workflows (e.g., ArgoCD/Flux), IaC standards, and repeatable, auditable release pipelines.
- Reduce deployment lead time and configuration drift across a large, heterogeneous install base
Performance Engineering
- Define performance benchmarks, SLAs/SLOs, and capacity models for carrier-grade telecom workloads.
- Institutionalize load, stress, soak, and spike testing as release gates.
- Drive bottleneck analysis and optimization across application, data, infrastructure, and network layers.
Governance, Metrics & Delivery
- Establish engineering KPIs (escaped defects, deployment frequency, MTTR, release predictability, performance regressions).
- Report quality, reliability, and delivery health to executive stakeholders with clear, data-driven narratives.
- Balance business needs against technical constraints; manage risk, dependencies, and escalations.
Stakeholder Management
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Professional Services, and Support to align quality and deployment standards.
- Represent the function in executive reviews and customer-facing escalations where required.
Desired Profile: -
Leadership
- 12+ years in software/quality engineering, with 5+ years leading engineering teams (managing managers or senior ICs).
- Proven experience building or scaling an automation, QE, DevOps, or SRE function.
- Track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing senior engineers and leads.
Telecom Domain
- Working knowledge of telecom/roaming systems and core network protocols (SS7, Diameter, GTP, SIP).
- Understanding of carrier-grade requirements: five-nines availability, high throughput, low latency.
Technical skills:
Must be conversant and credible across all three
- Test Automation: modern frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, RestAssured), API/contract testing, CI-integrated automation, coding in Java/Python/JS.
- Cloud-Native / DevOps: Kubernetes/OpenShift, containerization, CI/CD, GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux), IaC (Terraform/Ansible).
- Performance Engineering: load tooling (JMeter, Gatling, k6, Locust), APM/observability (Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace), capacity planning.
Good to have:
- Experience in a telecom software product company delivering to operators/carriers.
- Hands-on familiarity with GitOps (ArgoCD/Flux), IaC, and observability stacks.
- Exposure to AI-assisted testing and DORA-style delivery metrics.
- Experience standardizing deployment automation across a large customer install base.

12+ years total experience; 5+ years in engineering leadership
Educational Qualification:
BE. / B.Tech., M.E./M.Tech. or M. Sc. in Computer Science / Electronics Engineering / MCA
