We’re looking for a CryoLab Support Engineer to help keep our research labs running smoothly and safely. This is a hands-on, operations-focused role that sits at the intersection of hardware design, manufacturing, and lab logistics. You are a detail-oriented, highly organised professional who thrives in technical environments and understand the importance of precision, safety, and coordination in a high-tech lab setting. 

Job requirements

Experience needed:
  • Has Bachelor’s or higher degree in Physics, Engineering or equivalent. 
  • 1–3 years' experience working with cryogenics, including cryo-liquids like liquid helium or nitrogen
  • Has strong skills in procurement, inventory control, and vendor coordination
  • 2–3 years' experience with CAD, PCB design, precision soldering, and electronics assembly
  • Has basic knowledge of electronics measurement equipment, or willingness to learn
  • Can design, assemble and validates simple mechanical assemblies
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Enjoys being the go-to person for keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes
  • Is proactive with strong organisational skills, and capable of juggling multiple priorities

Job responsibilities

As a CryoLab Support Engineer, you will provide critical operational and technical support to the measurement & fabrication team. This multifaceted role balances the logistical management of the cryogenic laboratory environment with technical contributions in electronics design and hardware assembly. The successful candidate will ensure seamless lab operations through proactive procurement, safety compliance, and hands-on technical assistance. 


In this role, you will be responsible for assisting our researchers with: 

  • Lab Operations & Logistics:Maintaindaily laboratory readiness by managing inventory, executing asset tagging, and ensuring the real-time tracking of critical components and equipment.
  • Procurement:Facilitatethe acquisition of technical equipment by sourcing vendors, obtaining competitive quotes, and tracking orders.
  • Electronics Design & Assembly: Complete PCB design projects for cryogenic systems, perform precision soldering and assembly of hardware components.
  • Safety & Compliance: Draft and update Safe Working Procedures (SWP) and Risk Assessments (RA) tomaintaina safe environment.
  • Mechanical Support: Provide basic CAD modelling support for lab fixtures andassistin the routine maintenance of experimental equipment.


This is a hands-on, logistics-focused role that requires strong manufacturing skills and a proactive approach to stakeholder management. You’ll work closely with physicists, engineers, and operations staff to ensure our labs remain safe, efficient, and well-supported.
