Job description
Job Purpose: To lead and manage all aspects of occupational safety, health, and environmental (SHE) management within the chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, company standards, and global best practices, while promoting a proactive safety culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific Safety Management Systems (SMS) in alignment with ISO 45001 and local regulations.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, chemical safety standards, and corporate safety policies.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, hazard identification, and Job Safety Analyses (JSA) for all manufacturing processes.
- Lead and participate in safety audits, inspections, and monitoring programs (both internal and external).
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Implement Process Safety Management (PSM) practices, including HAZOP, LOPA, and QRA studies as applicable.
- Maintain accurate records of safety performance, track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and report to senior management.
- Occupational Health Management:
- Oversee effective occupational health programs, including medical surveillance, health risk assessments, and ergonomics initiatives.
- Monitor employee exposure to hazardous chemicals, dust, solvents, and noise, implementing controls such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), ventilation, and engineering safeguards.
- Coordinate with medical staff for employee health check-ups, immunizations, and wellness programs.
- Environmental and Regulatory Compliance:
- Collaborate with the EHS/Environmental team to ensure compliance with environmental regulations (e.g., waste management, emissions, effluent treatment, chemical handling).
- Stay abreast of local and international health and safety regulations pertinent to chemical and API manufacturing.
- Training & Awareness:
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety and health training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Promote a strong safety culture through campaigns, toolbox talks, and active participation in safety committees.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Develop, maintain, and regularly test emergency response and crisis management plans.
- Lead mock drills and emergency simulations to ensure readiness for fire, chemical spills, and other industrial hazards.
- Liaise with external agencies, fire departments, and regulatory authorities during incidents.
- Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Lead and mentor the Safety & Health team, clearly defining roles, responsibilities, and performance objectives.
- Collaborate effectively with production, engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to integrate safety into all operational aspects and project designs.
- Act as a key safety advisor for new projects, modifications, or the installation of equipment within manufacturing facilities.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify and implement best practices, new technologies, and innovative safety solutions to mitigate risks and enhance workplace safety.
- Promote behavior-based safety initiatives and employee engagement programs.
- Monitor and benchmark safety performance against industry standards, developing and implementing continuous improvement plans.
- Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of chemical process safety, occupational health, and environmental regulations.
- Proven experience in API, chemical, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in ISO 45001, OSHA, local regulatory compliance, and EHS software tools.

B.Tech / B.E. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical
