Principal Data Scientist

Under the direction of the VP of Aviation Strategy & Enterprise Analytics, the Principal Data Scientist leads the development and deployment of ML/AI solutions while coaching data science teams. Balances hands-on modeling with technical mentorship, ensuring data-driven decision-making at scale. Designs, develops, tests, delivers, maintains and improves applications, and works across the entire software development lifecycle to optimize front-end (user experience) and back-end workflow. What you will be doing: Drives end-to-end ownership of ML/AI model development, from research to deployment. Guides and mentors data scientists, ensuring best practices in model development, experimentation, and validation. Collaborates with engineering, product, and business teams to align data science solutions with company goals. Designs, develops, and maintains scalable machine learning models and pipelines. Leads the exploration of new techniques in AI/ML, ensuring the adoption of cutting-edge methods. Oversees data governance, bias mitigation, and ethical AI practices. Works with leadership to define KPIs and success metrics for AI-driven initiatives. Manages stakeholder communications, translating complex data science concepts into business impact. Ensures model monitoring, retraining, and continuous improvement for production models. Contributes to hiring, onboarding, and training data science team members. Performs other related duties as assigned.
