Duties
Role summary
We are looking for an experienced engineer to support a client engagement during a peak delivery period. The primary focus of this role is code review and engineering quality: reviewing pull requests produced by the delivery team, enforcing coding, testing and security standards, and keeping the CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments stable while the team ships quickly. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for someone who is senior enough to critique other people's code with authority and give clear, constructive, well-reasoned feedback.
Key Responsibilities
- Review pull requests across application code, infrastructure-as-code and pipeline configuration; assess correctness, readability, maintainability, performance, error handling, security and test coverage, and provide specific, actionable written feedback.
- Act as a quality gatekeeper for merges to main branches: enforce branching, versioning and release conventions, and unblock the team quickly so reviews are never the bottleneck.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (build, test, deploy) and automated quality gates: linting, static analysis, unit and integration test enforcement, dependency and vulnerability scanning, secrets detection.
- Maintain cloud infrastructure and environments using infrastructure-as-code; manage containerised workloads and deployment configuration.
- Set up and tune monitoring, logging and alerting; support incident triage, root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Document engineering standards, review checklists and runbooks so practices persist beyond the engagement.
- Work with a distributed team: participate in daily stand-ups, and communicate technical trade-offs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (Master's a plus).
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a DevOps, SRE or platform engineering capacity.
Demonstrated experience as a reviewer/approver on a professional engineering team — candidates must be able to describe their code review practice and give examples (this is the core of the role, not an occasional duty).
- Strong hands-on coding ability in Python, plus fluency reading and critiquing at least one of Java, Go, TypeScript/Node.js or C#.
- CI/CD tooling: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or Azure DevOps.
- Cloud platform experience: AWS, Azure or GCP.
- Containers and orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes.
- Infrastructure as code: Terraform (or CloudFormation/Pulumi/Bicep).
- Testing discipline: unit/integration test frameworks, test strategy, coverage measurement.
- Secure development practices: SAST/DAST tooling, dependency and container scanning, secrets management, least-privilege access.
- Observability tooling: Prometheus/Grafana, Datadog, ELK or cloud-native equivalents.
- Advanced Git workflow expertise (trunk-based or GitFlow, rebasing, conflict resolution).
- Excellent written and spoken English; able to explain complex technical ideas concisely in writing, which is how most review feedback will be delivered.
- Able to work independently, ramp up fast, and be productive within days on a short engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reviewing AI/LLM-assisted or generated code and applying appropriate scrutiny to it.
- Exposure to data and big-data environments: SQL and non-SQL stores, Spark, streaming pipelines.
- Understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, service-oriented and microservices architectures.
- Relevant certifications: AWS/Azure/GCP, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, HashiCorp Terraform Associate.
- Prior experience in a consulting or professional services environment with rapid delivery cycle
