Irrigator

The Irrigation Department is responsible for water requirements by area. A crew leader guides all irrigators, making sure the irrigators are watering appropriately based on the time of the year and weather conditions. Also directs when and where to fertilize.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for ensuring plants are properly watered in their designated section depending on the time of year due to season change.

• Ensure they turn off water valve and/or put back water hose when watering in that area is complete.

• Preforms basic irrigation repairs with poly tubbing.

• Reports leaks and repairs needed to Crew Leader or Yard Management.

• General care for the nursery grounds, keeping the nursery clean, organized, and safe for employees, customers, and vendors.

• General care for nursery stock (plants), ensures plants are watered, handled with care, and are placed in the appropriate location.

Additional Tasks:

• Hand pull weeds growing in tree boxes and containers.

• Apply dry fertilizer once or twice a year when directed by supervisor or crew leader.

• Various tree staking and top tying maintenance.

• Knowledge of plant identification.

• May assist in other nursery departments as needed.

• Duties are subject to change at any time per management’s discretion.

Job Specifications:

Constantly works in outdoor weather conditions on uneven ground surfaces and excessive moisture. Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing/sitting). Extensive walking, stooping, bending at the waist, twisting, and turning at the torso, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.

Lifting requirements: Up to 25 lbs. 75% of the time. Up to 50 lbs. 25% of the time (team lift techniques when required).

Hand movement: Gross grasping for turning valves on and off. Gross grasping for moving irrigation material.
