Job DescriptionGraduate Engineer Trainee (GET) – Designer / DraftsmanWarehousing Storage Solutions, Racking & Shelving (Mechanical)Job SummaryThe Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) – Designer / Draftsman will support the design and drafting of warehousing storage systems, including industrial racking, shelving, mezzanine structures, pallet storage systems, and related material handling layouts. The role involves preparing 2D drawings, technical layouts, fabrication drawings, and design documentation in coordination with the sales, project, and production teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering graduate to build a career in warehouse infrastructure, storage system design, and industrial project engineering.
Key Responsibilities1. Design & Drafting Support- Prepare 2D technical drawings and layout plans for:
- Pallet racking systems
- Heavy-duty and light-duty shelving
- Industrial storage racks
- Mezzanine floors
- Warehouse space layouts
- Storage and material handling arrangements
- Assist in developing GA drawings (General Arrangement drawings) and shop/fabrication drawings.
- Modify and update drawings based on project requirements and customer/site inputs.
2. Engineering Coordination- Work closely with the sales, design, production, and project execution teams to understand technical requirements.
- Support in preparing drawings based on:
- Customer warehouse dimensions
- Load requirements
- Storage capacity needs
- Product movement flow
- Coordinate with internal teams for design corrections and approvals.
3. Drafting Documentation- Prepare and maintain:
- Technical drawing sets
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Part drawings
- Assembly drawings
- Fabrication details
- Ensure drawings are properly version-controlled and documented for production and project execution.
4. Site & Layout Understanding- Interpret site measurements, floor plans, and warehouse layouts for design development.
- Support in converting site requirements into practical storage system designs.
- Assist in optimizing layout plans for space utilization, safety, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
5. Design Software Usage- Use design software such as:
- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks / Inventor / Creo (preferred, if applicable)
- Basic MS Excel for design data and BOM preparation
- Prepare neat, accurate, and production-ready drawings.
6. Learning & Development- Learn industry standards related to:
- Racking design
- Storage structures
- Mechanical drafting
- Warehouse planning
- Support senior designers and engineers in project design activities.
- Participate in training and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Deliverables / KPIs- Accuracy and quality of drawings
- Timely completion of layouts and drafting tasks
- Proper BOM and drawing documentation
- Coordination efficiency with internal teams
- Ability to support multiple design projects effectively
Required Qualifications- B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Freshers or candidates with 0–2 years of experience can apply
- GET / Entry-level candidates preferred
Required Skills- Basic knowledge of mechanical drafting and engineering drawings
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is mandatory
- Knowledge of SolidWorks / 3D modeling software is an added advantage
- Understanding of:
- Fabrication drawings
- Structural/mechanical layouts
- Sheet metal / steel components (preferred)
- Good analytical and problem-solving ability
- Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting
- Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines
