Job details:
Behind every great D&T department is a technician who keeps it running - safely, efficiently and with the kind of quiet expertise that allows teachers to teach and students to make, build and create without friction. At Shrewsbury International School India, we are looking for exactly that person.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of building something from the ground up: supporting a dynamic, skills-based D&T department at one of India's most ambitious and well-resourced new schools, on a 150-acre campus that has been purpose-built for excellence.
About the school:
Opened in August 2025, Shrewsbury International School India is a boarding school for students aged 11 to 18, delivering a rigorous British curriculum, CIE Lower Secondary, through IGCSEs to A Level as part of the whole-person education for which the Shrewsbury name has been celebrated for over 450 years.
The school is sponsored by Jagran Social Welfare Society (JSWS), a well-established education provider based in Madhya Pradesh with 13 successful institutions already within its portfolio. Set at the heart of India, Shrewsbury India represents the next chapter in that legacy and a genuinely exciting place to build a career.
The role:
As D&T Technician, you will be the operational backbone of the department, a trusted, skilled professional whose work directly enables outstanding teaching and learning. You will work closely with the Head of D&T and the wider teaching team to ensure that every workshop session, practical class and design project runs smoothly and safely.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing materials, tools and equipment ahead of lessons and practical sessions
- Maintaining and servicing workshop machinery, hand tools and digital design resources to the highest standard
- Ensuring full compliance with health and safety regulations across all workshop and studio spaces
- Supporting students in the safe and confident use of tools, machinery and CAD/digital design technologies
- Managing stock levels, placing orders and maintaining accurate records of equipment and materials
- Contributing to the overall smooth and professional operation of the D&T department
Who we are looking for:
- An experienced D&T Technician or workshop professional with a strong practical background in materials, tools and fabrication processes
- Sound knowledge of health and safety requirements in a workshop or educational environment
- Familiarity with digital design tools and technologies - CAD software, laser cutters, 3D printers, or equivalent is a distinct advantage
- A meticulous, proactive and well-organised individual who takes genuine pride in the quality and safety of their workspace
- Someone who enjoys working as part of a team and is comfortable supporting both teachers and students in a busy, creative environment
- A calm, reliable professional who understands that great technical support is what makes great teaching possible
What we offer:
- The opportunity to be part of a pioneering school community from its earliest years
- World-class D&T facilities purpose-built for practical, hands-on learning
- A supportive, collaborative and professionally ambitious working environment
- A competitive salary and benefits package
- The Shrewsbury name and the professional standing that comes with being part of one of the world's most respected school brands
