Role Description The Design & Estimation Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Chennai, focused on supporting composite design projects and accurate cost estimation. This role involves preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs), performing project estimation and cost analysis, and collaborating with process engineering and design teams to develop technically sound solutions. The engineer will interpret drawings and specifications, conduct research on materials and methods, and work closely with Business Development and procurement to ensure competitive and realistic pricing. Daily responsibilities include coordinating with internal stakeholders, participating in client discussions as needed, supporting negotiations related to scope and costs, and maintaining documentation for bids, proposals, and ongoing projects. The role also contributes to continuous improvement of estimation practices and alignment with BFG’s quality and innovation standards.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in BOQ preparation and project estimation to develop accurate cost breakdowns and support bidding processes.
- Candidates should possess a solid foundation in mechanial engineering / composite or related disciplines to understand structural requirements, specifications, and construction methodologies.
- Candidates should possess effective negotiation skills to support discussions with clients, suppliers, and internal teams on scope, pricing, and contract terms.
- Candidates should possess strong research abilities to analyze materials, technologies, and market rates and to optimize design and cost solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechaninal engineering and closely related field; experience with composites, construction, or infrastructure projects is an advantage.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering and estimation software (e.g., CAD tools, Catia, MS Excel, and estimation platforms) and strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Ability to work on-site in Chennai, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and manage multiple projects with attention to detail and timelines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English; familiarity with industry standards, safety practices, and quality assurance processes is beneficial.
