Job Title: Design Engineer – Chassis Attachment Parts
Job Description
This role focuses on the end-to-end design and development of chassis attachment parts for commercial vehicles. You will independently carry out layout studies, create concept designs, and develop detailed 3D parametric models of sheet metal brackets using NX. You will also prepare engineering drawings, apply basic GD&T, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, manufacturable designs that meet performance and quality requirements. Experience in plastic injection molding or casting design and basic NX FEA analysis will be a strong advantage.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop chassis attachment parts for commercial vehicle applications with minimal supervision.
- Perform layout studies and create concept designs that meet functional, packaging, and manufacturing requirements.
- Create NX parametric 3D models of sheet metal brackets and related components.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings from 3D models, ensuring clarity, completeness, and manufacturability.
- Apply basic GD&T principles to define dimensional and geometric requirements on drawings.
- Use NX Sheet Metal design tools to optimize sheet metal components for strength, weight, and ease of fabrication.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to refine designs based on feedback, performance targets, and cost considerations.
- Leverage knowledge of commercial vehicle systems and chassis to ensure designs integrate effectively with surrounding components.
- Utilize SMARAGD and NX tools to manage design data, revisions, and documentation throughout the design lifecycle.
- Support and, where applicable, perform basic NX FEA analysis to validate design concepts and improve component performance.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, standards, and best practices within the engineering team.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in automotive or commercial vehicle applications.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal guidance on design and development tasks.
- Strong knowledge of chassis systems and chassis attachment components.
- Hands-on experience with NX (Unigraphics) for 3D modeling and drafting.
- Proficiency in NX Sheet Metal design for sheet metal components and brackets.
- Ability to create clear, accurate engineering drawings from 3D models.
- Basic working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Experience in designing sheet metal parts with consideration for manufacturability and structural performance.
- Good understanding of automobile systems and their integration at chassis level.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in commercial vehicle system applications.
- Knowledge of plastic injection molding design for components and housings.
- Experience in casting design for structural or housing components.
- Working knowledge of SMARAGD or similar product data management tools.
- Familiarity with NX FEA analysis for basic structural evaluations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in an engineering design context.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, production-ready designs.
- Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
