Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Design Engineer role based in Chennai. The Design Engineer will be responsible for developing mechanical and electro-mechanical designs for machinery and automation systems, from concept through detailed design. Daily work includes creating and updating 3D models and technical drawings using CAD tools, preparing bills of materials, and collaborating with production, procurement, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance with standards. The role involves reviewing design requirements, performing basic engineering calculations, participating in design reviews, and supporting prototyping, testing, and implementation on the shop floor or customer sites. The Design Engineer will also assist in troubleshooting design issues, updating documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement of products and processes.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Design Engineering and Product Design, with the ability to translate functional requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions.
- Applied knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles, including materials, tolerances, basic stress analysis, and machine design fundamentals.
- Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for 3D modeling and 2D drafting, along with good drawing standards and GD&T practices.
- Exposure to Electrical Engineering concepts relevant to automation systems, such as integration of electrical components and basic understanding of control panels.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams on the shop floor and in project discussions.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving mindset, and willingness to learn and adapt to new tools, standards, and customer requirements.
- Previous experience in machinery, automation, or industrial equipment design is an advantage.
