Key Responsibilities
1. Substation Design & Engineering
- Lead electrical design and engineering for AIS/GIS substations up to 220 kV.
- Prepare SLDs, Protection SLDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, control philosophies, and logic diagrams.
- Develop complete engineering packages in line with project requirements and applicable standards.
2. Technical Documentation & Specifications
- Prepare and review Tender Specifications, Data Sheets, MRs, TBEs, DBRs, and Technical Specifications.
- Ensure all technical documents comply with customer specifications, project requirements, and applicable IEC/IS standards.
3. Electrical Equipment Engineering
- Lead the sizing, selection, and specification of electrical equipment such as:
- CTs & PTs
- Power Transformers
- Switchgear & MCCs
- DC Systems & UPS
- Auxiliary Systems
- Other substation electrical equipment
4. Power System Studies
- Perform and review Load Flow, Short-Circuit, Motor Starting, and other power system studies.
- Use ETAP for network analysis and validate results through engineering calculations where required.
5. Electrical Calculations
- Perform/review engineering calculations for:
- Cable sizing
- Cable trays and conduits
- Earthing/Grounding
- Lightning protection
- Illumination
- Short-circuit forces
- Conductor sizing
- Sag-tension analysis
6. Drawing & Layout Review
- Review and approve key substation drawings and layouts, including:
- General Arrangement (GA)
- Equipment Layouts
- Erection Key Diagrams
- Earth Mat Layouts
- Cable Routing/Raceways
- Grounding Layouts
- Lighting Layouts
7. Cable & Wiring Engineering
- Prepare and review Cable Schedules, DB Schedules, Termination Schedules, Inter-Panel Wiring Diagrams, and Cable Routing Documents.
- Ensure proper coordination between equipment, panels, cables, and field installations.
8. Quality & Engineering Compliance
- Review engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with:
- Project scope
- Customer specifications
- Applicable standards
- Quality requirements
- Approved design criteria
- Identify design gaps and ensure timely corrective actions.
9. Project & Multidisciplinary Coordination
- Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Protection & Control, Instrumentation, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning teams.
- Resolve technical interfaces and engineering issues to maintain project schedules.
10. Client & Stakeholder Management
- Lead project kick-off meetings, technical discussions, design reviews, client meetings, and progress reviews.
- Act as a key technical interface between the engineering team, client, consultants, and project management.
11. Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Lead and guide the electrical engineering team.
- Review engineering deliverables and provide technical direction.
- Mentor engineers and develop the team's technical capabilities.
12. Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and update the Lessons Learned database.
- Drive engineering standardization, best practices, productivity improvement, and design quality enhancement across projects.
Required Experience
12–18 Years of Experience
- 12–18 years of relevant experience in Electrical Design & Engineering.
- Strong exposure to EHV/HV Substations within the Power Transmission & Distribution or EPC industry.
AIS/GIS Substation Experience
- Hands-on experience in the design and engineering of AIS/GIS substations up to 220 kV.
Engineering Leadership
- Proven experience in leading engineering teams.
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering activities and deliver projects within schedule and quality requirements.
Client & Project Exposure
- Experience in:
- Client interactions
- Technical discussions
- Technical Bid Evaluations
- Design reviews
- Project coordination
- Engineering issue resolution
Educational Qualification
Mandatory
- B.E./B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
Preferred
- Master’s Degree in Power Systems or Electrical Engineering will be an added advantage.
