Job Title: Design Engineer Intern / Associate Mechanical EngineerJob Description
This role focuses on supporting product design and detailing activities for sanitary industry products such as taps and showers under the guidance of a technical lead. You will create and refine 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Solid Edge, apply plastic and sheet metal design principles, and contribute to both component-level and system-level mechanical design. The position offers hands-on exposure to configurable product design, basic FEA simulations, and close collaboration with customers on technical queries and project updates.
Responsibilities
- Support mechanical product design and detailing activities for sanitary industry products, including taps, showers, and related sanitaryware.
- Develop accurate 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Solid Edge in line with project requirements and standards.
- Apply plastic and sheet metal design principles throughout the product development process to ensure robust and manufacturable designs.
- Create configurable product designs using Solid Edge configurations and design tables to support product variants and customization.
- Perform basic finite element analysis (FEA) simulations and recommend design improvements based on analysis results and performance criteria.
- Contribute to component-level and system-level mechanical design activities, ensuring proper integration of parts and assemblies.
- Coordinate with customers to provide regular project updates, clarify requirements, and resolve technical queries in a timely manner.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including design trackers, quality records, and lessons learned for future reference.
- Support design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) activities to improve product quality and reliability.
- Assist in planning assembly sequences and developing bills of materials (BOM) to support efficient manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Use product data management (PDM) tools to manage design data, control revisions, and ensure proper documentation of design changes.
- Prepare and present technical progress reports, design solutions, and key project observations to stakeholders and the technical lead.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Solid Edge or a similar 3D CAD tool.
- Strong expertise in Solid Edge modelling, assembly creation, detailing, and configuration management.
- Good understanding of design for manufacturing (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and DFMEA principles.
- Practical knowledge of plastic injection moulding processes, machining operations, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Ability to plan assembly sequences and develop accurate bills of materials (BOM).
- Experience working with product data management (PDM) systems for design data and revision control.
- Basic knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) according to ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Ability to clearly present technical progress, design solutions, and project observations to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree (BE / BTech) in Mechanical Engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience designing products for sanitaryware applications, including faucets, taps, and showers.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals applied to product design and development.
- Familiarity with configurable product design methodologies using configurations and design tables.
- Exposure to basic FEA tools and techniques for structural analysis and design validation.
- Attention to detail in creating manufacturing drawings and documentation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for effective customer and team interaction.
- Ability to maintain organized project documentation and quality records.
- Proactive approach to capturing and applying lessons learned to future projects.
Work Environment
You will work in a professional engineering environment focused on mechanical design for sanitary products, using Solid Edge and related PDM tools as your primary design and data management platforms. The role involves close collaboration with a technical lead and cross-functional teams, as well as regular communication with customers to discuss project status and technical issues. You can expect structured project documentation practices, quality record maintenance, and a culture that values continuous improvement and learning through lessons learned. Working hours and attire follow standard office-based engineering practices, with an emphasis on accuracy, accountability, and clear technical communication.
