Position Title: Accountant
Department: Business Office Group: Act 93, Group 2
Reports to: Business Manager Date: February 25, 2024
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
All job functions are to be executed through the lens of high-quality customer service. Customers are defined as both
internal and external clients. Examples demonstrative of high-quality service may include, but are not limited to, the
following:
• prompt responsiveness to inquiries
• professional and courteous verbal and nonverbal communication
• proactive problem solving
• Provide District Staff with training on Business Office practices and procedures
• Ensure purchasing policies and procedures for the school district are being followed.
• Acquisition of supplies and services in accordance with Pennsylvania School Code
• Assist with bid specifications for all categories of supplies and services
• Maintain an up-to-date Approved Vendor List
• Identify opportunities to leverage cooperative purchasing agreements to optimize procurement processes and cost
savings
• Identify surplus or excess equipment available to political sub-divisions
• Maintain accurate records of fixed assets including acquisition, depreciation and disposal
• Conduct periodic inventory audits to reconcile physical stock counts with records and identify discrepancies
• Perform budget inquiries to ensure funds are available
• Assist with reconciliations of general ledger revenue and expenditure accounts
• Post journal entries for general ledger and expenditure accounts
• Assign expenditure account numbers in accordance with PA School Accounting Manual
• Assist with monthly bank reconciliations of checking and investment accounts
• Process and record cash receipts in accordance with established District procedures
• Issue accounts receivable invoices accurately and in a timely manner
• Monitor outstanding receivables and follow up with customers to facilitate timely payment
• Assist with accounts payable and purchase order processes
• Assist with biweekly payroll processes
• Serve as backup for Accounts Payable, Purchasing and Payroll
• Provide requested financial documentation and reports to assist with local, state and federal audits of District’s fiscal
records

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor Degree in Business Management or Accounting preferred or an equivalent amount of training
and experience.
Certification: None
Experience: Three years of experience in accounting, purchasing and inventory.
Must be familiar with GAAP and GASB, knowledge of cooperative purchasing practices and
Pennsylvania state contracts preferred
Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; strong knowledge of accounting
principles, practices and procedures; ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with diverse
stakeholders including district staff, auditors and external partners; attention to detail and commitment to
accuracy and compliance; proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
