They manage a wide range of issues—from clinical diseases like acne and skin cancer to cosmetic concerns—and perform diagnostic tests, non-invasive surgeries, and laser therapies.Key ResponsibilitiesDiagnoses & Consultations: Examine patients to evaluate skin, hair, and nail conditions while reviewing detailed medical histories.Treatment Planning: Prescribe oral and topical medications, and administer light therapies or chemical peels.Surgical & Cosmetic Procedures: Perform in-office surgeries such as biopsies, mole removals, and cosmetic procedures like Botox and laser resurfacing.Patient Education: Advise patients on skincare routines, preventative measures (e.g., sun protection), and disease risk factors.Collaboration & Referral: Coordinate with other medical specialists and refer patients for advanced care when necessary.Qualifications & RequirementsEducation: A medical degree (MD or DO), followed by an accredited dermatology residency program.Licensing & Board Certification: Valid state or national medical license and, typically, board certification in dermatology.Clinical Skills: In-depth knowledge of over 3,000 dermatologic diseases and proficiency in using dermatological tools.Soft Skills: Exceptional active listening, empathy, and strong communication skills to build patient trust and explain complex treatment outcomes.
