Reports To: Plant Head / Plant Manager

Experience: 6–8 Years

Qualification: B.E / B.Tech (Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation / Food Technology)

1. Role Purpose

The Deputy Plant Manager is responsible for supporting the Plant Manager in ensuring efficient, safe, and compliant operations of the dairy manufacturing plant. The role oversees production, processing, utilities, maintenance, quality, manpower management, and compliance to achieve organizational KPIs and operational excellence.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Dairy Processing & Production Operations

• Oversee daily production operations across Milk Reception, Pasteurization, Homogenizers, Separators.
• Manage equipment such as Evaporators,High-Pressure Pumps, CIP Systems, and Packaging Lines.
• Ensure optimal line efficiency, yield improvement, and reduction of processing losses.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to meet output targets.

B. Utilities & Engineering Management

• Monitor performance of Boilers, Steam Distribution Network, Refrigeration Systems (Ammonia & Freon), DG Sets, VAM, Compressed Air, RO/UF Plants, and water treatment units.
• Work closely with the Maintenance Head to reduce equipment breakdowns and improve uptime.
• Ensure adherence to preventive and predictive maintenance schedules.

C. Quality, Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with FSSAI, HACCP, GMP, ISO, and FSSC 22000 standards.
• Maintain hygiene and sanitation protocols across all production zones.
• Support quality improvement initiatives to reduce market complaints and enhance product consistency.

D. Operational Excellence & KPIs

• Track and improve KPIs such as OEE, yield, wastage, specific energy consumption, customer complaints, and plant downtime.
• Implement lean practices, TPM, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support automation and digital transformation initiatives across operations.

E. Budgeting, Cost Control & Energy Management

• Assist in preparing and monitoring annual plant budgets.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities in processing, utilities, packaging, and manpower.
• Drive energy-saving projects and ensure the plant meets consumption norms.

F. People Management

• Manage cross-functional teams across production, maintenance, QA, stores, and logistics.
• Conduct skill-gap analysis, training needs identification, and performance reviews.
• Promote a strong culture of safety, discipline, and continuous improvement.
• Capable of handling a workforce of 50–100 employees effectively.

G. Government Liaison & Statutory Compliance

• Coordinate with Factory Inspectorate, Boiler Directorate, Electrical Inspector, Pollution Control Board & Local Authorities.
• Ensure full adherence to legal, environmental, and safety standards.

H. Projects & CapEx

• Support execution of CapEx projects such as new line installations, layout changes, automation upgrades.
• Lead commissioning of new equipment and technology upgrades.
• Knowledge of AI/ML applications in maintenance or energy systems is an added advantage.
