Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Economic Advisor Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Grade: HEO Location: Flexible location within England Salary: £35,456 - £39,999 Contract: Permanent Closing Date: 23:55 on 3 February 2023 The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is the government department responsible for issues including the natural environment, food and farming, fishing, rural communities and the bio-economy. With such a broad remit, having robust economic advice is crucial to help inform policy development and delivery across the department. This role provides an exciting opportunity to play a key part in providing high-quality economic analysis and insights to support Defra's work. Working as part of Defra's economics team, you will: - Carry out quantitative economic analysis to support policy development and evaluation across a range of Defra policy areas - Contribute to briefings, speeches and submissions for senior officials and ministers - Engage with a wide range of stakeholders to gather evidence and insight - Lead or support on specific economic projects as required, with opportunities to develop expertise in priority policy areas The successful candidate will have: - Strong quantitative analytical skills and a good understanding of economic principles and their application - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex analysis in a clear and concise way - Strong project management skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams - A relevant degree, such as in economics, or equivalent experience This is an exciting opportunity to apply your economics skills to real-world policy challenges.
