Essential Functions and Accountabilities

  • Manage and oversee core accounting processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close activities.
  • Provide oversight to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP and Statutory accounting standards, control systems and documented policies and procedures.
  • Establish, maintain, and monitor schedules for financial processes, including close cycles, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
  • Oversee timely and accurate preparation and review of required financial reporting including financial statements, regulatory and statutory filings. 
  • Provide financial analysis across all companies to support leadership decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with local state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including but not limited to premium taxes, for profit and nonprofit federal income taxes and 1099’s.
  • Lead budget development, forecasting, and three-year financial planning processes for Delta Dental and affiliated companies.
  • Responsible for the cost allocation methodologies, ensuring consistent application.
  • Coordinate preparation and support of financial audits, including annual external audit, insurance division audits and others.
  • Identify, develop, and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness across accounting and financial reporting activities.
  • Provide people leadership through coaching, development, and performance management of the accounting team. Strive to promote best practices, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Foster employee engagement and model the organizations core values and culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  

Required

  1. Bachelors Degree in Accounting.
  2. 5+ years of related experience in Accounting, including financial reporting, general accounting and budgeting.
  3. Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.
  4. Demonstrated leadership and people management experience.
  5. Strong analytic and communication skills with focus on detail and accuracy.
  6. Ability to manage multiple priorities across entities and deadlines.


Preferred

  1. CPA certificate.
  2. Insurance industry experience.
