Internship Job Description
Position Title: Fire Information Technology Intern
Department: Fire Department
Supervisor/Mentor: Fire Technology Manager or Designee
Dates: May 18, 2026 - July 31, 2026
Hours: Can work up to 29 hours per week (3 full days or 5 half days-flexible)
Position Duties
Summary of Position:
The intern will assist with projects assigned by the Fire Technology Manager.
Essential job functions:- Assist in maintaining inventory records and documentation for equipment
- Install and help implement personal computer hardware and software.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with desk top computers, laptops, network printers,scanners,smart-phones, and other Fire specific technology items.
- Assist with other projects as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics:- Course work in Information Technology, Information Systems or Computer Science
- Strong Analytical skills
- Strong IT skills
- Ability to employ critical thinking to accomplish goals
- Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and citizens
- Ability to prioritize tasks and efficiently manage time
- Ability to maintain professional (business casual) dress and grooming
Learning Goals- Knowledge of city government and interdepartmental relationships
- Understand role of IT in a Public Safety environment
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
Course work in information Technology, Information Systems or Computer Science
