About the role
We are seeking an experienced HSN/HTS Classification Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead product classification, regulatory compliance, and customs-related advisory for global trade operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead complex HTS/HSN classification research using WCO Notes, chapter/section notes, customs rulings, and product technical data.
- Prepare, validate, and approve classification write-ups with strong legal and technical justification.
- Oversee Rules of Origin analysis for determining product origin and FTA eligibility.
- Maintain and enhance classification databases, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
- Provide expert guidance during audits, compliance reviews, and pre-entry checks.
SME & Leadership Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary expert and escalation point for all customs classification and compliance matters.
- Lead knowledge transition, onboarding, and development of training materials/SOPs.
- Mentor team members, build backups, and ensure process continuity and operational excellence.
- Drive process standardization, quality improvements, and documentation accuracy.
- Support management in defining KPIs, productivity metrics, and performance evaluation frameworks.
- Conduct regular feedback sessions, capability assessments, and stakeholder interactions.
- Champion adoption of new methodologies, best practices, and compliance frameworks.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Automobile/Industrial Engineering (or related technical field).
- 6–10 years of hands-on experience in HSN/HTS classification, FTA qualification, import compliance, and duty determination.
- Strong understanding of global trade regulations, import licensing (BIS, etc.), and customs procedures.
- Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and technical understanding of products.
- High proficiency in MS Excel and MS Office tools.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and documentation skills.
