Job Summary
DeKalb High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated secondary English teacher to inspire a passion for literature, language, and critical thinking. The primary purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality, evidence-based instruction that helps students master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) while preparing them for post-secondary academic and professional success.
As a key member of our instructional team, you will create a nurturing, inclusive, and rigorous classroom environment where every student feels challenged and supported. You will be responsible for utilizing data to drive instruction, and fostering a collaborative culture that aligns with the DeKalb ISD mission to empower students to thrive in society and succeed in life.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Certification: Valid Texas Educator Certificate in elementary grades (EC-6 core subjects or the equivalent)
Content Competency: Depending on the assignment, you may also need a content-area certification (e.g., ESL or complete the Texas Reading Academy) to meet Texas "Teacher of Record" requirements.
Skills & Key Responsibilities
Content Knowledge - A deep understanding of the Reading Language Arts Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
Differentiated Instruction - Adapting teaching methods to support diverse learners, including students with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs)or those who are multilingual.
Assessment & Data Analysis - Using formal tests and informal observations to track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Empathy - Building rapport by seeing the world from a student's perspective and understanding that outside factors often influence classroom behavior.
Classroom Management - Establishing clear routines and a positive culture where students feel safe and are focused on learning.
Adaptability - The ability to pivot when necessary and be flexible based on campus or student needs.
Digital Literacy: Proficiency with online learning platforms and interactive tools like digital whiteboards or educational apps.

Secondary English teachers are eligible to earn Teacher Incentive Allotment Pay based on student performance and evaluation.
DeKalb ISD maintains a pay scale that is competitive in the region and at least $4,000 above the state minimum salary schedule.
Free Pre-K is provided for children of teacher's working in the district.
