Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced academic leader to serve as Dean / Director over the Schools of Allied Health Sciences, Rehabilitation and Nursing. The role will provide strategic, academic and administrative leadership across all programmes, working closely with Heads of Department, Professors and the University leadership to ensure quality, compliance and growth.
The Dean / Director will be responsible for academic planning, faculty development, research promotion, accreditation and regulatory compliance with UGC and relevant professional councils, as well as building strong clinical and industry linkages.
Key Responsibilities● Provide academic and administrative leadership to all programmes under Allied Health Sciences, Rehabilitation and Nursing, in alignment with UGC norms and relevant statutory councils (INC, RCI, Allied Health council as applicable).
● Lead curriculum planning, revision and introduction of new programmes (UG, PG and doctoral, as applicable) to meet emerging healthcare and rehabilitation needs.
● Oversee recruitment, mentoring, appraisal and career progression of faculty in line with UGC 2018 regulations on minimum qualifications and academic performance.
● Promote a strong culture of research, publications and consultancy; facilitate faculty and student research projects and collaborations, with emphasis on Scopus/UGC-listed journals.
● Ensure all academic processes (admissions, timetable, teaching–learning, internal assessment, examinations, clinical postings and internships) run smoothly in coordination with the Registrar, Controller of Examinations and other offices.
● Ensure compliance with UGC, State Government and concerned professional/statutory councils for programme approvals, inspections, faculty norms, clinical facilities and student intake.
● Build and strengthen partnerships with hospitals, rehabilitation centres, NGOs and industry for clinical training, internships, placements and joint initiatives.
● Lead preparations for accreditation, ranking and quality assurance (NAAC, NBA or other relevant bodies) in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell.
● Oversee academic budgeting, resource planning (labs, equipment, learning resources) and optimal utilisation of infrastructure in consultation with the University administration.
● Represent the Schools in statutory bodies/committees of the University, and contribute to policy formulation and long-term strategic planning.
Eligibility and Qualifications (UGC-aligned)Minimum eligibility is aligned to senior academic positions (Professor-level) as per UGC 2018 Regulations for appointment of teachers and other academic staff in universities.
● Ph.D. in a relevant discipline of Allied Health Sciences, Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Hearing, Nursing or closely related health sciences field from a recognised University.
● First-class Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
● A minimum of 15 years of teaching and/or research experience in a University or recognised higher education institution, out of which at least 3–5 years should be at the level of Professor / equivalent senior position in the relevant field.
● Proven research record with a good number of quality publications in peer-reviewed / UGC-listed / Scopus-indexed journals; experience in guiding PG/Ph.D.
● Demonstrated academic leadership experience as Dean / Principal / Head of Department / Programme Coordinator or equivalent, preferably in Allied Health, Rehabilitation or Nursing in a University or reputed health sciences institution.
● Familiarity with UGC Regulations 2018 and relevant professional council norms (INC/RCI/Allied Health councils) regarding faculty qualifications, workload, curriculum and clinical training.
Desirable:
● Experience in establishing new programmes, schools or centres in health sciences / rehabilitation.
● Experience with NAAC/NBA or other accreditation and ranking processes.
● Strong network with hospitals, rehabilitation centres and healthcare organisations.
