About the Role
The Dean of the School of Sciences is the senior-most academic and administrative authority within the School, directly accountable to the Vice Chancellor. The Dean provides visionary leadership to three departments — Chemistry, Microbiology, and Food Science — and is responsible for the academic, research, financial, and operational excellence of the School as a whole.
This role demands a distinguished academic who can inspire faculty, drive research output, foster industry and institutional collaborations, and ensure the School's programs remain contemporary, rigorous, and aligned with the University's strategic goals and UGC/regulatory mandates.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Leadership & Curriculum
- Provide overall academic direction for the School of Sciences and its three departments.
- Oversee the design, review, and continuous improvement of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral curricula across Chemistry, Microbiology, and Food Science.
- Ensure all academic programs comply with UGC, NAAC, and relevant statutory/regulatory bodies.
- Champion outcome-based education (OBE) and the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020) frameworks.
- Facilitate academic audits, accreditation processes, and program review cycles.
Research, Innovation & Consultancy
- Build and sustain a strong research culture across all departments within the School.
- Encourage faculty to secure funded research projects from DST, CSIR, DBT, ICMR, FSSAI, and other national and international agencies.
- Promote interdisciplinary research initiatives bridging Chemistry, Microbiology, and Food Science.
- Oversee the functioning of research labs, centers of excellence, and sponsored research within the School.
- Facilitate publication of research in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and support patent filing and technology transfer.
- Develop consultancy services and industry-sponsored projects to generate revenue and strengthen industry linkages.
Faculty & Staff Management
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention of qualified faculty across all three departments.
- Conduct periodic performance appraisals of Heads of Departments (HoDs), faculty, and non-teaching staff.
- Mentor faculty in career progression, research output, and academic development.
- Identify and facilitate faculty development programs, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Foster a culture of academic integrity, collegiality, and inclusive excellence within the School.
Student Development & Welfare
- Ensure high-quality teaching, learning, and student experience across all programs.
- Oversee student admissions, progression, examination, and graduation processes within the School.
- Promote student participation in research projects, seminars, competitions, and professional events.
- Address student grievances and welfare matters in collaboration with relevant University offices.
- Strengthen placement support and industry connect for students of the School.
Administration & Governance
- Report directly to the Vice Chancellor on all academic, administrative, and strategic matters of the School.
- Chair and conduct School-level academic council meetings, board of studies meetings, and departmental reviews.
- Prepare and manage the School's annual budget, resource allocation, and infrastructure requirements.
- Coordinate with other Schools, administrative departments, and central university bodies for smooth functioning.
- Represent the School at University-level academic bodies, statutory meetings, and external forums.
Industry, Collaboration & Outreach
- Develop and maintain MoUs with industries, research institutes, hospitals, and universities at national and international levels.
- Facilitate student and faculty exchange programs, joint research, and collaborative degree offerings.
- Establish industry advisory boards for each department to keep curriculum and research industry-aligned.
- Promote the School's visibility through conferences, public lectures, science outreach, and media engagement.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or a closely related Life/Applied Science discipline from a recognized university.
- Minimum 15 years of teaching and research experience in a university or reputed institution of higher education, with at least 5 years in an academic administrative role (HoD, Dean, or equivalent).
- Strong publication record in indexed, peer-reviewed journals (Scopus/Web of Science); minimum h-index as per UGC norms for the discipline.
- Experience in handling funded research projects and guiding Ph.D. scholars.
- Familiarity with NAAC, UGC, FSSAI, and other relevant accreditation/regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and academic program management.

Pay Range and Compensation Package
The remuneration for this position will be best in the industry, supplemented by a Dean's allowance and University perquisites. The final CTC will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, research profile, and experience. Details will be discussed with shortlisted candidates during the selection process.
