We are seeking a Database Expert (6-9 years) with strong experience in legacy database analysis, schema conversion, and data migration across mainframe and modern systems for our client.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse legacy schemas, stored procedures, data volumes, and dependencies
- Identify incompatible features (proprietary SQL syntax, data types, triggers)
- Perform schema conversion and transformation using AWS SCT, AWS DMS, IBM DataStage, Informatica, or custom ETL scripts
- Handle complex data type mapping (EBCDIC to UTF-8, packed decimal to numeric, DATE/TIMESTAMP formats, VSAM to S3/Parquet/relational)
- Design and execute data validation plans (row counts, checksums, hash comparisons, reconciliation)
- Ensure referential integrity, precision, and completeness of migrated data
- Use SQL, scripting, Python, PowerShell, QuerySurge, or Informatica DVO for validation and automation
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of table structures, indexes, constraints, stored procedures, and database utilities
- Experience with DCLGEN, COBOL-DB2 interfaces, SQLCA, and batch vs online processing
- Hands-on with DB2 utilities: BIND, REBIND, RUNSTATS, REORG, LOAD, UNLOAD
- Knowledge of VSAM datasets (KSDS, ESDS, RRDS) and access patterns
- Understanding of hierarchical databases (IMS) and their cloud equivalents
- Proven experience in data migration, schema transformation, and validation frameworks
