About the Role- Work with a high-growth, US-based AI-first product company solving real-world, data-intensive problems
- Own and scale production-grade data and platform infrastructure powering core systems
- Operate as a high-impact individual contributor with direct ownership and minimal bureaucracy
What We’re Looking For- 8–12 years of experience in database engineering, platform engineering, or similar roles
- Proven track record operating as an IC in high-scale production environments
- Strong preference for candidates with startup or fast-scaling product experience
Core Technical Requirements
Database Expertise- Expert-level proficiency in MySQL and PostgreSQL
- Hands-on experience managing large-scale (TB+) database systems in production
- Strong depth across:
- Query optimization and performance tuning
- Replication (sync & async)
- Sharding and partitioning
- Backup and disaster recovery
- High availability and fault-tolerant design
- Experience with database proxies (e.g., ProxySQL) is a plus
Infrastructure & Kubernetes- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, especially running stateful workloads in production
- Experience with Helm, Terraform, or similar infra automation tools
- Deep familiarity with at least one of AWS, Azure, or GCP, with awareness of cross-cloud tradeoffs
LLMs & AI Tooling (Core Requirement)- Real-world experience working with LLMs in production or near-production systems
- Comfortable with:
- Tools like Claude, ChatGPT, etc. for engineering workflows
- Integrating LLM APIs into systems
- Working with or deploying open-source LLMs
- Strong bias toward using LLMs for automation, debugging, and system efficiency
Scripting & Systems- Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python
- Solid Linux systems expertise, including:
- Debugging CPU, memory, disk, and network issues
- Troubleshooting live production environments
Operational Expectations- Experience owning production systems end-to-end
- Comfortable with:
- On-call rotations
- Incident response and firefighting
- Strong automation-first mindset, leveraging modern tooling (including LLMs)
- Active contributor to DevOps / platform engineering best practices
Role Structure- Contract role (~20 hrs/week) — built for high-output engineers, not passive contributors
- Requires overlap with US time zones
- Designed for independent operators who can take ownership without hand-holding
