We are seeking a Database Engineer (DBA) with strong expertise in PostgreSQL and MySQL to manage and maintain our production databases. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring database reliability, performance, integrity, and availability while supporting engineering teams with schema design, SQL optimization, and database best practices.
This is a hands-on role requiring solid experience in database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and database development.
Key Responsibilities:-
Database Administration
- Administer and maintain PostgreSQL and MySQL databases in production environments.
- Monitor database availability, health, and performance.
- Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, backups, and recovery operations.
- Manage database users, roles, permissions, and security.
Database Design & Development
- Review and recommend database schema designs.
- Develop and maintain stored procedures, functions, views, and other database objects.
- Support database migrations and schema version management.
- Ensure adherence to database design standards and best practices.
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor and optimize database performance.
- Analyze and tune SQL queries and execution plans.
- Design and maintain indexes to improve query efficiency.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Data Integrity & Governance
- Ensure data consistency and integrity through proper database design and transaction management.
- Review SQL changes and database modifications before deployment.
- Monitor database growth and implement data archival and cleanup strategies.
- Maintain database documentation and operational standards.
Monitoring & Reliability
- Monitor database metrics, storage utilization, locks, and long-running queries.
- Support replication, backup validation, and disaster recovery processes.
- Troubleshoot database incidents and perform root cause analysis.
- Participate in capacity planning and database scalability initiatives.
Collaboration
- Work closely with software engineering teams during application development.
- Provide guidance on SQL development and database best practices.
- Support release activities involving database changes.
- Collaborate with infrastructure teams to ensure reliable database operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5โ8 years of hands-on experience administering PostgreSQL and MySQL databases.
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts and normalization.
- Experience with SQL performance tuning and query optimization.
- Proficiency in writing stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers.
- Knowledge of ACID transactions, locking, concurrency, and isolation levels.
- Experience with backup, recovery, replication, and database maintenance.
- Familiarity with Linux environments and database administration tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PostgreSQL replication, PgBouncer, or high-availability solutions.
- Experience with cloud-databases on cloud.
- Knowledge of partitioning, indexing strategies, and database scalability.
- Exposure to monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, New Relic, or Datadog.
- Familiarity with version control and CI/CD processes involving database deployments.
- Experience supporting databases for microservices-based applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
