About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Data Scientist specializing in Computer Vision to join our client's dynamic team on a contract basis. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development of advanced machine learning systems that underpin a next-generation visual search platform within the fashion technology space. As a pivotal member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and deploying scalable AI solutions that directly enhance user experience by enabling intuitive and personalized fashion discovery. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including product managers and engineers. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping the future of fashion e-commerce through innovative AI applications.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of six years of practical experience in machine learning with a strong focus on computer vision. Proven expertise in deploying computer vision models into production environments at scale is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of transformer-based vision architectures such as ViT, CLIP, or similar models, along with experience in building multimodal search or retrieval systems that integrate visual and textual data. Advanced knowledge of embedding-based search techniques, vector databases like Pinecone, Weaviate, or Qdrant, and familiarity with AWS services including SageMaker, Lambda, and S3 is required. Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, coupled with experience in managing infrastructure using Terraform, is highly desirable. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset are necessary to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end computer vision pipeline, including image ingestion, preprocessing, feature extraction, object detection, and similarity search at scale.
- Design and implement transformer-based vision models for tasks such as classification, detection, and fashion understanding.
- Develop multimodal search systems that combine image and text signals to deliver highly relevant search results, enhancing user experience.
- Architect and deploy real-time inference infrastructure utilizing AWS services such as SageMaker, Lambda, and S3 to ensure high availability and low latency.
- Build and optimize vector database pipelines (e.g., Pinecone, Weaviate, Qdrant) to support large-scale image retrieval and nearest-neighbor search functionalities.
- Manage ML infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to facilitate scalable, reproducible, and efficient deployments.
- Conduct structured experiments to evaluate model performance, identify areas for improvement, and iterate towards higher accuracy and relevance.
- Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate user requirements into effective machine learning solutions.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production systems to ensure consistent, low-latency, and reliable performance at scale.
