About the Role
We are seeking a strong and passionate Data Engineer with experience in large-scale system implementations, particularly in building and maintaining complex data pipelines. The ideal candidate should be capable of designing and driving large projects from inception through production. You will work closely with cross-functional business and technology partners to gather requirements and translate them into a clear data engineering roadmap. This role requires an excellent communicator, a strong team player, and a technically solid engineer.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate with engineering, product, and analytics teams across technology sites to collectively achieve OKRs and drive Uber forward
- Enrich data layers to support next-generation products stemming from Uber’s bold strategic initiatives
- Design and build robust data pipelines to schedule and orchestrate tasks such as data extraction, cleansing, transformation, enrichment, and loading based on business needs
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of overall technical software engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL, Java, Scala)
- Big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Flink, MapReduce, Presto), data modeling, and ETL development
- Designing end-to-end data solutions and data architecture
Expertise That Excites Us
- Strong SQL skills
- Strong understanding of data warehousing and data modeling concepts
- Hands-on experience with the Hadoop ecosystem, including:
- HDFS, Hive, Oozie, Airflow, MapReduce, Spark
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, and Scala
- Experience building and maintaining ETL data pipelines
- Experience with performance troubleshooting and tuning
