Brief About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Data Engineer & Business Intelligence Developer (Contract) to support a high‑visibility Application Portfolio Management (APM) initiative. This engagement focuses on transforming a structured dataset of 400+ enterprise applications into reliable, executive-ready insights that inform technology and investment decisions.
This is a delivery-oriented engagement. A technical foundation is already in place; the contractor will complete, optimize, and productionize the solution and deliver clear documentation for handoff.
This role provides the Data engineering, modeling, and visualization expertise required to operationalize the data.
Engagement Context§ The initiative supports customer broader focus on data-driven decision-making and modernization of its technology landscape.
Current state includes§ CSV-based application, capability, and vendor data
§ Baseline Python transformation scripts or transformations in converting datasets for PowerBI consumption.
§ Azure Cosmos DB as the target data platform
Key Qualification§ 8 years hands-on experience in data engineering or ETL
§ Strong experience with Azure Cosmos DB (SQL / NoSQL API)
§ Advanced proficiency with Power BI or similar BI tools
§ Strong SQL skills and understanding of NoSQL data modeling
§ Experience designing dashboards for executive audiences
§ Ability to work independently and deliver end-to-end outcomes
Nice to Have§ Git/GitHub version control
§ Experience with lightweight APIs
§ Familiarity with visualization patterns and platforms.
Scope of Work: A. Data Engineering & ETL
§ Complete and harden Python-based ETL pipelines
§ Consolidate multiple CSV sources into analytics-ready datasets
§ Normalize multi-value fields and enforce data quality standards
§ Implement validation, logging, and error handling
§ Data Modeling & Azure Cosmos DB
§ Design normalized and denormalized data models aligned to reporting needs
§ Define partition strategies and optimize query performance
§ Configure databases and containers using the Cosmos DB SQL / NoSQL API
§ Support data exports for downstream BI consumption
B. Business Intelligence & Reporting
§ Build executive-facing Power BI dashboards
§ Develop interactive visuals, filters, and drill-downs
§ Apply best practices for leadership and board-level reporting
§ Documentation & Handoff
§ Produce clear technical documentation (architecture, setup, data models)
§ Document transformation logic, business rules, and operational guidance
Key Deliverables§ Consolidate data sets and build ETL pipelines
§ Configured Azure Cosmos DB environment with documented schemas
§ Load and modify data towards optimized queries and in supporting common reporting use cases
§ Executive-ready Power BI dashboards
§ Complete handoff documentation enabling internal ownership
§ Required Contractor Qualifications
